Play with friends over LAN

I know, there are plenty of threads like this already, but I can't seem to find the solution for the problem I have.

So, I want to play with friends over LAN. That's the first problem. I have no idea how. I tried different things already, but I seem to be too stupid for that.
The second problem is, I played in single player mode (aka Local), and I don't want to create a new character when playing online. Is it somehow possible to play with friends in a Local game?

I hope that didn't sound too stupid.

You can't play with friends over LAN I don't believe, the only way to play privately is if you host your own server, which isn't easy, there are companies online that will allow you to rent a server start from £10 a month for about 30 slots.

If you want to transfer you character from single player to you to go to a obelisk, transmit ark data, character upload, start a game on a new server, suicide your level 1 guy, create new character then click on download character

Alright...I tried making a dedicated server on my own, and it seems that it worked. Now just my friend has to try to get on the server. If that's not working...Isn't there a way to rent a server with just 2 or 3 slots? I really don't wanna pay so much money, if I just play with one or two other people.

if you can get on the server, then the easiest way is while your ingame your friend searches for you by loading the game, join arc then clicks on the 'friends' option on the drop down box where you can pick from official servers, unofficial etc.

No way to rent less slot as the companies may say theres not a lot of money involved

if not then you and your friend are welcome to join our private passworded friendly mature PvE server, we don't taking any trolling or abuse, we all just want to 'play the game' and work with eachother

I was trying to get a lan server but it seems that the lan hosting option won't be available for a while and I want to play with my friend.

Anyway Lukasz I was wondering if I may join your server. I promise my friend and I aren't trolls we just want to play without people trolling and destroying our stuff, thanks in advance
