catching and keeping pteranodon?
is there anyway to keep tham contained after catching. ive had my first one disappear on me. only caught it last night and today its now on top of my house where i left it. i play local so nobody has been on and killed it or anything. ran around all the areas ive been playing today and just cant find it.

also what is the best way to catch them. the first i had 3 scorps and we stung it. it got stuck in a rock but that was lucky. just keep chasing it?

Make sure they're set to stay in place and not follow or wander. Try whistling around where you last saw it.

I also have a fenced in area I keep my dinos in, even playing locally. It's possible a predator could have killed it. Tamed pteras don't fly off when attacked.

well from where i was chopping wood i could see it and kept checking on it. it was dark when i went back and it was gone. as i say ive run all over trying to find it whistling but to no avail. i didnt see any death message either. what is the best way to knock one out as it was really nice being able to fly

You need Tranq arrows. Run up and put two in it before it takes off, then aim for a third while it's escaping. It should be downed but if not, keep an eye on it until it lands, then repeat.

issue isn't catching it, but keeping it.

after a few tries, we caught 3, lost all 3, they just "vanish" at some point or another for no reason.

Make sure to set it to Passive or it'll fly off on it's own when attacked. Beyond that, build a cage or have other dinos around to protect it.

I've thought of trying to build a small cage. It involves being able to craft (or obtain) a dino gateway/gate and building fences. I have a feeling I'll need to use pillars and put foundations on that so that the cage can have a ceiling. I've found that pteras can fit through the gateway so you could, in theory, cage it.

ive had the same ptera for almsot a week now. i just land him on my roof, which i have walled in to some extent. have him set to no follow and passive, so theres no reason for him to move at all. i keep my saddle locked up but every day i get on hes still there waiting.

tranqing them can be a bit annoying but after a few trys you should down one, and they usually tame about as quick as a trike or faster it seems.

only pain in the ass for me is farming the 75 keratin to make the saddle. even with a level 42 spino to farm the turtles/trikes/stegs etc, it takes awhile to farm it up. then again i was farming it solo.

I can confirm this works, as this is what I did at my base. I build my house/parasaur stable, then I built a rookery above for my future fliers. Of course I'm playing with a tribe, not local, so this could take a bit longer for you, OP.

It takes a lot of lumber, and since OP says they play local, I recommend a lumber-heavy area, and build your cage before trying to capture the flier.

I managed to snag one at the beach with Tranq arrows and patience, but it does help if you have another tribe member willing to help, as 2-3 arrows will typically bring one to the ground. Since OP doesn't have that luxury, find a wide open area, get a tranq arrow ready pop him, let the second one fly as fast as possible(in my experience when they're on the ground at the first shot, they do a little animation before flying off, giving you time for a second hit) and then you may have to trail it a bit for the third shot, or 2 may be just enough-in some cases I've seen them immediately fall unconscious after 2 shots.

yeah, also be wary of their momentum especially if your on coast. i one time tranqed one and it kept gliding into the ocean as it did its tranq animation. so be careful where it falls, if it falls in a precarious place, you wasted your arrows.

If you are high enough level to craft a Sabertooth saddle, I highly recommend getting one for Keratin/Chitin farming. I can get anywhere from 4-8 keratin from things like turtles, and I've gotten a maximum of 17 Chitin from one scorpion using the Saber. If you aren't a high enough level yet, then I would definitely say to get the Saber saddle asap.

Edit: Be warned...you'll have an abundance of hide.
