Basements Suggestion...
So, Our base is expanding pretty far at this point, and I think a common issue going on is bases being built too close to each other. This limits growth for the next half a month, (Which is a year in game time, imo).

My proposed solution is Basements. Now, I know this would take quite a while to develop or implement, but what if we could buid/dig under the ground. Lets say a foundation has to be placed above the area you're going to dig? But this would expand the ability to make a better base, and maybe even strength defenses on pvp servers, having a bomb shelter esque house?

I love how much you guys are keeping this game up-to-date, and everything you've added.
Being alpha, I figured I'd give yet another suggestion to help this amazing game grow =)

Something like that, yeah! Not to go all Minecraft, but basically making a dug hole 1x1.
I'm a huge fan of the building in this game. So anything to expand is awesome.

Just was thinking about that! :D:

A place where you can bunker & hoard stuff safely.
I mean who places tons of stone and wood in the living room...

+1 for the cellar / basement idea :2015coal::ai_flare:

Thanks guys!

You can have this. The devs will just have to remake the entire game from scratch, which will probably mean the game will be down for a while.

+1 for basements/bunkers.

Has been stated that terraforming will never be in ARK.

Sorry but its not gonna happen

Wouldn't have to be terraforming, could be a fixed size/depth and only placeable under foundation(s).

To make this viable, the whole map and game would need remaking from scratch. Whole new systems of damp and water filling holes would need to be coded from scratch (since anyone burrowing into the sea basin is inevitable).
Simply patching in a "downstairs" wouldnt work as your need an admin to come and ghost you out every time you went in. How about you just build up?

To add a build-able area under the map that is accessible from what once was solid ground will be no easy feat. Let alone what resource issue it would cause to the server.

they have said that eventually they will add the ability to build airtight underwater bases in post EA, so all that would be needed for basements is a foundation interface that would allow you to build under the surface of the ground mesh. would have to be restricted to entire prefab'd rooms but it could work fairly well as it wouldn't actually require changing the map at all.

Yes I do think basements would be cool, but likely hard to implement with the way they have the map. I would be happy if my pets would in fact stop sinking into the ground ! However, am I missing something here - why do you not just build up. You already have an established foundation you can add as many floors as you like if truely space is an issue.

In essence the same way caves work?

Would require loading into said basements.
