Loss of Metal During Refining Process

So I made a refining forge for the first time. I put 5 metal into it and got 3 ingots. Is there any way to make refining metal more efficient?

Three ingots for five metal is exceptional, for me it's two metal for each ingot. Indeed, placing an odd number of metal into the forge will always see a single piece remaining.

should be a static 2 raw metal to 1 metal ingot.

I've smelted hundreds of metal and never seen anything but 2 to 1.

2 metal = 1 ingot. Five metal = 2 ingots and a metal.
