But I agree this has to be fixed especially in the lava one for you don't get as many chances to "swim" out of the glitch there.
I've had that happen too, and my bird died in mid air while "landed" because it glitched and took fall damage somehow. I've been mounted on a raptor and dropped through the world and lost both me and the raptor. This was literally where my base is. mammoths you might as well forget about riding up hills, they're always glitching through the ground cause they ghost collide through it, so higher risk of dropping through because LoS is cut and it dismounts you reulting in infinite falling, drowning in air, falling to your death, or simply being stuck in the ground permanently because there's no /unstuck command that works worth a crap. So many other similar things with ground colliding where it just isn't working.
Caves are a bit buggy but it only happened once for me so far.
yeah I don't think any of it works like it should. I've noticed it happen more when a server is taxed and is full on number of players. It just seems like it can be compared to a bathroom tissue (lol wtf?) but yeah say you add a drop of water to it, it holds right? Well add 10, still holding but only barely. When 70 drops are added it rips and the drops fall through even though they were soaked onto the surface. Same concept, with a mass number of players the ground just seems unstable in a lot of regions where cliff connections, hills, and water is at. These areas "weaken" and if a player is near with other objects they can very easily fall through randomly resulting in the many bugs above.
If you fall through the ground in a cave you enter a water plane that's under the map. If you you enter this plane swim up to the surface and find another water source. Once you clip into a real water source the game takes you out of the underwater plane and you can walk up on a structure and not drown.
We found the cave locations day one by going into single player and using ghost to clip the water plane and look around for the black cave planes that are easily visable from large distances.
The issue is with the ground collision being bypassed by the dinos themselves and not the players. This has happened during fights with spiders most often for me, but Raptors and mammoths are also notorious for falling through the ground while mounted on them resulting in the same situation.
It's just a small glitch in their coding that somehow allows them to "push" you through the ground or wall textures so to say when they're attacking or around you that causes you to fall through because there's no ground there.
Yes it's the same reason why the creatures like Titanboas, Bats, Spiders, Scorpions, and Mammoths are all buggy and often glitch through the ground and walls like that. Because they glitch through the walls, this records a solid side on the other side allowing them to "climb" so to speak until they hit a weakened area they can drop through, but if they get under you, you'll also glitch through said wall or floor nearby it. It's very risky to even think of entering caves like this unless you're naked with crappy spear weapons and nothing else since that's the only way to prevent the loss of every item are you to fall through. But yeah it's not something to be mad over, but it can ruin someone's day for sure if they go in "fully prepared" with spare weapons and everything needed to fight hordes of creatures only to fall through and lose it all at the first sight of a spider because they can do this. I hope they look into it further and fix it soon.
Lost my metal tools and chitin armour too many times from spiders crawling under me and slamdunking me through the floor in to lava.
South East cave for me.
