Metal in south?

Metal spawns in high quantities at mountain level elevation so head for high ground to find the metal specific rocks.

not sure, but i made a base near the green obelisk. Yea i know mountains have tons of metal but the south seems to be lacking any mountains. Thanks anyway

Go for the rocks in the river between green and Cragg's Island south of it. Not as much as in mountains, but more than the rocks on land. If you use a metal pick you gradually build up a surplus vs repairing it, but with stone tools it takes a few rebuilds of the materials to make enough for the first pick (and smithy). Just be careful of the waterfall area that spawns crocodiles and the carnos on either beach now and then..

The cave around lagoon at south 2 got metal.. can mine the first 5 rocks before meeting hostiles... you can allso bring your raptor inside the cave.. should make it easyer to deal with the locals

Its around 60-70 metal with metal pickaxe pr run for the first 5 stones

The best rocks to search for metal in the south are the small large rock nodes, you know the ones that look about the size of the ones you can pick up but you need to bash them. Those are the smoothed river rocks and I have gotten metal from them when farming flint.

find some caves, in south I found 2 one is very good because there are only spiders and snakes in it

I know this is an old post, but there is a hill on the south, not many hostiles to what I remember, its more to the east, on the south coast, it has 3-4 metal rocks on it, very easy metal for players just getting to the metal tier, at about 81 lat and 61 long.

There is a mountain in the south in between foot paw and the south islets but not much to make a metal base out of... Rocks in the south have some metal to them along the south shores at least on my server. The South Island also has some metal but very little... Your better off getting a quetz and some Arby's and fly over to the mounts in the north

The roundish smooth rocks you can find on the shores of the ocean and various rivers etc will usually net you some metal. Not a lot, but nothing to sneeze at if you can't or don't want to travel into more hostile territories.
