Dedicated server shown in LAN, Need in public
I have a private unoffical server that i started with my own code but it only shows in LAN. I am trying to make it so my friends can join and play with me but LAN servers require them to be on my same internet. Is there a way to set the server to be in the public list, not LAN?

port forwarding.
Ports are already set to what they are needed to be, i am able to connect but the server is set to LAN only and i dont know how to change it.
Your friend just needs to try connecting using the external IP. Try using whatismyip.com to get your external address. You'd only need your IP address if your friend is using the shortcut method to directly connect to a server, otherwise the server should show up just fine in the server browser. You'll find it under LAN games, but it'll be listed along with other public/private servers for people not on your network.

If it isn't possible for them to find your server using the normal server browser, there's a 95% chance that something isn't right with your port forwarding.
You can also join on a person by using the steam interface.Click the little chevron/arrow by their name on your friends list, and click "join game". This is a possible solution if you are doing this to try to make the world visible to your friends.

There is a good chance it's your IP Address/portforwarding. Open the command prompt, type in " ipconfig ", no quotes and grab your IPv4 Address. Make sure the ports are open for this address. Also remember that if you have a dynamic IP Address, that it will change every so often so you'll have to update the port forwarding, unless of course you have a static IP Address.

Just went to check my ports and the Services are gone. When i try to make a new one it gives me a "falure! plz check inputs". I know i put in the right inputs and everything.
Just found this online (about failure please check inputs)

Reboot modem. Setup a rule (I got no errors but saw no rules in the list.) Reboot modem. Now I see my rule and it works

Iooks like it may be your hosting that is causing issues, and the only way to fix this is to reboot unfortunately :(

Though, it looks like even when you do this, the problem can still persist.

Just restarted router and it showed services, unfortunatly i refreshed the page and they were missing again while giving me the same "failure! please check input". So Im thinking its my hosting/router. But what i dont understand that I can still find it on my list.

It's probably a port forwarding issue. You'll need to forward 27015 AND 7777 to the computer running the server, through your modem, AND and routers between that computer and the internet. If you have a typical Comcast/Xfinity modem, it'll have port configuration, and if you have a router after that to connect the rest of your household, you'll likely have to configure that as well. That's one of the difficulties of following server hosting walkthroughs... the process can be very different for different people.

The shortcut method: create a new shortcut and set the target to the following:
steam://connect/127.0.0.1:27015
You'll need to replace 127.0.0.1 with your external IP address for your friend to connect to a server on your network, and you might need to use a different local address to connect from LAN (ex. 10.0.0.1). Double clicking that shortcut should open a steam window that shows some info about the server. If you see "server not responding," that means that either the IP address is wrong, or the port forwarding for the server is incorrect or incomplete.

To find the local/LAN address of a computer on your network, open a command prompt window on the server computer, and type in "ipconfig" (no quotation marks). The correct LAN address should be the one listed as your IPv4 Address. Use that in the shortcut to connect to a LAN server from that same network.

I figured it out, if you have multiple NIC's and both are enabled, disabled the one you are not port forwarding for, soon as i disabled the 2nd NIC my server showed up, under Unofficial listing

I'm having the same problem with having my friend connect to my server, we've tried the direct connect lan in the target line of the shortcut. Also how and where are you finding you NIC's for ark servers?
Did you check your IP Passthrough? it seems that I had to set that up on mine to be able to show up on official. I followed the Linux dedicated server guide, then this thing to setup the firewall:https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/firewall.html and im on a NVG599 (Arris) through ATT
Hey guys,
I'm sure I might be a little late but of course, if you're still having an issue or if someone else is, I own myself a TF2 Surfing and 2FORT forever server here: 68.148.251.23

Anyways, so it's showing up in LAN and not NET and your friends aren't connecting?
Okay, so this is a port forwarding issue, I mean it has to be since others can't see/join the server.

So, first of all, allow the inbound and outbound connections on the firewall of the server for said ports, this just makes things easier and in general is a good idea for running a game server.
Next is really double check your Port forwarding, ensure you forward all the required ports for the game and the software that runs the server, steam has a list of ports required for valve games. A common mistake is that when port forwarding is that the Redirect Target Port is set wrong, it must equal the beginning destination port of the port range you're forwarding.

A common mistake/issue is running the game off the same machine you play the game with, (which yes is possible) the issue with this is the port you use to play the game is usually the same port used to host the server (especially with valve server 27015 in most valve game cases) but since it's the same as the gaming machines client port you just end up literally hosting yourself, which will in turn force the server into a LAN non-dedicated server.

Next, make sure you're giving people your Public IP, this is not the "IP" of the server but rather the IP of the server box itself. (this IP can be found here whatismyip.com but make sure that when you use that link it's on the PC running the server) If this works for other people then fear not! Nothing is actually wrong, I assume you are hosting the server on your machine or on a machine on the same network and if that is the case the server will very naturally and understandably show up in LAN being on the same network and all. (But for other people it will be over the NET because they are not connected to your network)

Hopefully, this helped you, and if not hopefully it will help someone else. I'll sub to the discussion just in-case you guys give a quick response, but I can't guarantee I'll respond forever.
does this work for a server you have already been in and cant see anymore? We have tried several times to update the server and restart it, as we are renting a server, steam says its up but the ark server list doesnt have it available and says no sessions found. Any help would be great thanks.
