it takes a very long time, theyll probably increase the overall production rate on it soon as its not really worth it currently

Yeah, it can take up to a day.

currently beef jerky is just a waste of resources

Its absolute garbage. if you're using oil to preserve meat, you're doing something wrong. Meat takes seconds to get. you do not need jerky.

I think if you could gather fish oil and use that instead of the regular oil it wouldn't be a waste, they'd just have to increase the number of fish that spawn.

Not a lot of other uses for oil actually, gasoline and the fabricator itself from what I have seen. And if you have a hard time getting oil then the fabricator is a waste of time for you anyway since most stuff it makes requires pearls which are much harder to get than oil. Unless you want otmake your own flak armor, oh and I guess the gun, whic requires obsidean, which isnt as hard ot get as people make it out to be. But then again niether is oil (andnot in the caves) if you know where to look or get lucky and stumple on 12-15 nodes no one knows about. I get 200 oil a day do them in the morning and at night after they respawn. So I have more oil than I know what to do with ATM. So I waste some on jerky.

Actually having a way to make beef last longer and not spoil so often is great, but they need to remove oil from the recipe it doesnt belong....at all. Oil is not the easiest resource to get, and even if it was it has no business being in the process of making beef jerky. I doubt people want to go swimming with megladons at the bottom of the ocean just to get some oil to make jerky..

dont listen to these people, jerky is not a waste of time, having meat that takes 2 days to spoil is a godsend in caves. and megladons are a joke when you have a meg or a carno, especially leveled, oil is easy to get at that point, pearls too really, they come in great numbers in some areas. you just have to make sure to put points in oxygen or use lazarus chowder. theres one area i found that has at least 100 or more pearls all gathered up near each other around an underwater cave.

the only gripe i have about the jerky, is that it does spoil, jerky doesnt spoil, nore should it in the game, and if it didnt it would make it much more worth it.

I could only see jerky being beneficial if it gave more than 20 food.

It's not like there's any lack of food - it just gives you another option.

Or last for a very long time - I still don't see why we don't just have basic dried and salted meat right at the start. You can't cool or prepare meat for longterm use resulting in your inventory of cooked meat turning into ... well... living meat in a matter of hours.

+1 in agreement for all saying that jerky shouldn't need oil, and that it should last a long time.

I'm ok with it not giving us a super large amount of food, I'd even be ok with it dehydrating you a little bit for the sake of making it a more balanced usable item if it became easier to make -because its stringy, salted meat.

Its not just another option, its a much longer lasting option that is why its so great.

Devs please remove oil from the beef jerky making process. As a hobby Ive made a lot of homemade beef jerky, and oil would have no business being in that process or any other food process. And to have a harder to get material just to dry out some beef doesnt make sense to begin with, let alone you are using oil which isnt consumable and isnt a food material at all.

I have to agree, petrochemicals and food do not mix. Now, if they required something like citron or something to involve acid in the preparation process and require you to use crop plots? That'd be reasonable, even if still not quite true to life.
