yeah I agree that guns are weak atm but I would not say they are as bad as the OP makes it sound. I am thinking if you only got 5 dmg out of it on a player in hide then maybe they made better quality hide?(ie not the basic/primitive engram version).
The fabricated rifle is incredibly expensive. I have a 3 man tribe, and we have built a camp on a mountain slope where we can use our ankylos to gather much sparkpowder, gunpowder, and metal for bullets. So our strength lies in our ability to gather and make bullets. We attempt to play to this strength by creating various guns to test in caves in order to get chitin and obsidian. This is unbelievably expensive, and if we were to gather up 100 bullets for each of our three people, it would take an hour or two. If we then dove into the cave with our pistols and bullets, we would die because the pistols are so weak, the enemies shred us. Even if we make it past several groups of mobs, we are now done with our 100 bullets. In this dive, we have barely gathered enough to make a bit of the paste. A cave dive rewards around 150 chitin on a lucky run. A fabricated rifle needs around 170 paste. Thats 680 chitin.
I am 100% for all the time and effort it takes for one gun. FULLY SUPPORT the expense of creating these guns. But damn. THEY ARE WEAK. A bullet should realisticly have enough bang to drop a scorpion or bat in 3 or 4 bullets. With the price of bullets, plus the misses in shots, the effort to make enough bullets to be supplied to survive a cave dive, i think that a careful shooter should be able to wipe out a horde of spiders with a clip. Then reload, and take out those 4 boas behind the spiders.
MORE POWER TO GUNS AGAINST DINOS.
Not to mention they brake down after maybe 3-5 minutes, imagine that on the battlefield it would never work in a war, i have never seen such ridiculous wear before, this also goes for armor and tools to be honest but is the biggest problem for the assault rifle when you need like 300 bullets for a t-rex and the weapons break before you can even come close to hurting it.
Weapons against dinos need a huge damage buff up to 500% tbh.
And i would argue that a headshot against anything else than full flak should be instakill.
I can two shot most low level dinos and pretty much one shot nearly any argentavis or pteranodon
Yes we do understand that but im not even playing on pvp so we NEED another kind of balancing for pve servers.
