Guns are meant for pvp , shotgun+longneck both take out players in 1-2 shots (depending if they were flak armor) we shot a dilo with the rocket launcher and it didnt die.
So are we supposed to just sit back and never use guns for hunting?
Finding the blueprints is no easy feat either, and even if you do find them you must then provide the ammo for it that costs -4- ingots for a -single- shot.
Another thing to be concerned about is the simple pistol, it took me 24 shots (48 ingots + 60 for the pistol) to kill a level 3 carboemys, albeit the durability is still pretty good.
Overall the guns feel pretty underwhelming, and if we're just supposed to tranq higher level enemies then beat them to death with a pike or a spear, then the game wouldn't be that fun now would it?
I think we just need either a cheaper or a more powerful set of bullets for guns, makes the PvE players not think twice about them, when they should be aiming for them to help the hunt.
If these guns actually killed things, I would say "Hot diggity, I'll cough up this exorbitant amount of metal ingots to make this bullet, because that would still be useful!" but right now, I can just keep those ingots and make something like a stone arrow, and that would still be preferable to how bad the Longneck and other guns are right now.
