Longrass, Savoroot and others spoil too quickly.
Now I don't mind the current food spoil rate with refrigerators etc. However I still feel plants that are only obtainable through crop farming spoil wayyyyy too quickly.

I literally pull these out of the plant, put them straight into the food preserver thing. Gather a few materials needed for my recipe.

Then I throw them all into the pot. Now even though this food is "steamed" it goes back to its old spoil rate instantly, so I have like 60-120 seconds sometimes to manage to get the recipe cooked before one of them spoils and I lose the correct amount of ingredients.

Since the ingredients for the recipes are extremely specific, I have to keep extras on me at all times during the cooking process just incase.

Suggestion:

Food on a lit fire/cooking pot pause their spoiling timer. I don't see how bacteria can ruin a plant when its boiling at 100C

OR food exclusive to crops need to spoil way less frequently, so I don't need to rush all in one go to cook some recipes. They're hard enough as it is to make.

I agree. Food shouldn't be spoiling while you're cooking it - makes no sense.

yeah, cook fires/pots should preserve the food just like the other options do.

but only when lit and actively cooking a recipe, that way it doesn't become a new way to preserve food.

although I do believe most spoil timers could be reworked to be far less annoying.

especially cooked foods, cooked meat spoild way too quick imo. I can see raw meats spoiling quick, (although prime meat could use a definite upgrade, it spoils alarmingly fast especially since it doesnt stack so that in itself is a huge thing.) but cooked food should last at least 30-40% longer I would think.

I can cook 15 meat and usually at least 3-5 of them spoil before I need to eat them all.

berries that you find naturally seem to spoil at about the right rate, especially if you keep them all on your herbivores.

Well, if youre leaving your fire on while your sleep to preserve food youre going to burn a ton of wood anyway. so it would be a good trade.

yeah, but the preserving bin fits that purpose, you burn tons of wood to preserve food you don't need yet.

we are talking about how good quality ingredients spoil too fast to effectively cook them

Fun fact for everyone, all food (even berries) spoils much slower when in the inventory of a dinosaur versus that of a human. This is especially beneficial in regards to prime meat, bringing it's ~2min spoil timer to over 8 minutes.

I never knew an ear of corn would turn rancid in 2 min. What have we been feeding our children!?

Ya.. It's kinda sad I have to keep my little dilo beside me for harvesting my gardens just so that the food doesn't spoil before I can get back in the house to even use them to cook with...
Yes I get it that they are suppose to be harder to come by but... That timer is just cruel!

Also Prime meat.. I have to generally hunt for a Bronto or something a decent ways away.. then hall rump back to my tribe mates on my Carno and toss it into the carnivor we're taming and hope he eats it generally within 3-6 minutes.. Now if I had gotten lucky and score 3-6.. Well we just lost 3-5 Prime meat

Cook the prime meat, 45 min timer. Whenever I go prime meat hunting I carry a campfire or 2 with me. The unconscious dino will eat it all the same. Prime jerky the same way and it lasts 20 days in the preserver.

Meh I might have to get into the habit of cooking prime meat then.. It's not as effective though when taming

I completey agree that the planted crops should last longer. The fact that the pictures are of a potatoe and corn for longrass and savroot make it even more ironic that these foods in real life have a Very long shefl life and have actually played a big part in saving nations from starvation during the great depression due to their longevity and versatility ;)

Either way I completely support this topic and hope for at least a small increase than 5 minutes for the times! Thank you moderators and developers for all your time and effort!! I can not wait to see how big this game can get :D

If I'm not set to use the produce I've grown, then I leave it on the plant until I am... I don't think 5 hours to spoil per item is bad.

I can understand a need to keep them in high demand, but if I forget an ingredient while cooking, I lose 2 before I can refill the pot >_> I would think giving them the same spoil time as Raw Meat a better alternative.

I don't like the spoilage in general; I don't see what value it adds to the game. I would love for their to be an option to disable spoilage entirely (coupled with a new recipe for narcotics, or some crafting means to obtain spoiled meat).
