What's the purpose of the water tank?
So I finally built a water tank and had to redo my whole water pipes to connect it then once I did I can't figure out any use at all for it. It has several slots and says to put water type items in it to fill it up. Or it says I can just connect it to an active water line... but to do what with? It says it has 5000 I guess 'units' of water in it.. but I can't seem to access it, though my tap is right next to it so I think it's pretty pointless.

Maybe you can put inside the water bags to fill it.
And i buy this engram too, but can't put it in my base, don't know why.

You can attach an irrigation system to it to water crops. Each one has 200 unit capacity and is refilled either when raining or running a pipe to a water source. If the water pipes break for some reason on the source side, then you still have 200 units of water as backup.

To place a tank, you have to place some type of stone pipe first.

the water tank is for catching rainwater and provides access to water when other sources may be unavailable. the inventory for the water tank is only used for filling up the tank manually with skins/jars. the tank itself can only be placed onto exiting irrigation and requires a tap to access any stored water, which can then be used to fill skins/jars or irrigate crops.

The water tanks have no real purpose atm. At least as long its capacity is just double as high comparing to a water skin...

To place it, you need to place any kind of a pipe first (wich makes NO SENSE at all). If you destroy the last attached pipe, the tank will be destroyed as well

You can NOT put water skins inside, but you can attach a Tap to your pipe (or more pipes and several Tap's) and put 4 Water Skins/Jars in every Tap. The water in the Taps wont be consumed on its own. You are forced to take the Skins/Jars out of it, to use them.

All in One the water tank is a piece of crap at the moment and only usefull to establish a freaking unnecessary complex water supply for your character if you have no other water source near by, like in the mountains.

If you want to use water tanks for your farm, then good luck, you will need up to 9 tanks for one large pot to ensure its irrigation and even more in biomes with less rain...

I'm using 2 water tanks for 4 large gardens and it works just fine.

Without fertilizer, on a modded server or only in your dreams. On retail server one tanks will be replenished within 15 Minutes using one large Crop Plot and depending on biome you will get rain every 60-90 minutes or even less often. Do the math yourself...

I'm terrible at math, but it seems like the resources needed to make water jars and, in relation to how easily they're destroyed, the water basin things make them significantly worse at getting water to your anything than any other thing. I just use a ptera and fly to the water source for my own water. The crops are extremely handy themselves, but on a pvp server, you need to waste a hell of a lot of metal so level 1 noobs wont kill your stone pipe every 12 hours. Its just a huge waste of time water plants, you'll be building pipe every day.

+1 - Agreed with you, makes no sense.

Because it i can't put a tank in the solo to catch rain :D
My tribe is far from a water source, so, I think invest the engram points in this will be a good shot. Not yet, they need FIX.
What i can do with Crops? I don't like this thing and think is useless.

I don't care for your attitude. I have no reason to lie to you. I'm telling you how it is.

Im using 2 water tanks on 4 large gardens with fertilizer.

About stone pipes system...i think it can be more resistent to atacks from players and never be atacked by wild dinos.

And if i can do a "high" system with the pipes, away from solo...can be possible?
In this case only the begin of the system, inside the water, can be destroyed.

Noone said, that you are lying, but you are in fact dreaming.
Are you even aware of the fact, that not the "Irrigated" message on your Plots but only the water amount inside of it is counting for the growrate of the crops? Your tank is only doing its job well, if your plots water stays over 0 ALL the time. Even 2 small plots will reach 0 pretty often by using just one tank. So take some time for your tests again please ;-)

Cut the patronizing attitude.

My gardens only ever show "Irrigated" when they are connected to a river via an intake pipe.
The ones on the mountain show as "Not irigated". It still works.

I can grow what ever I like there with no issues what so ever.
In fact, it has worked every time I've tried it. In every location.

But hey, you are not going to bellive me unless I show you right?
So here, have a look!

Uploading another one showing the tanks too. dont know why but it got cut.
Edit: New video is up.

Ohhh.. Okay.. It's a type of back up source if you don't have water coming up pipes from a river. I have pipes up from the river going to a tap which I placed right in between 4 medium plots then I put another pipe after the tap and it goes to another tap which is also in between 4 medium plots.. and all 8 medium plots are fully irrigated.

Then after the last tap I put a pipe that goes to this tank. So I guess if something happened to my pipes coming from the river then the tanks reserves could supply the taps until I got a new pipe network setup.
