How I killed it was by first looking around for a good place to set up an attack. I found a natural stone arch shaped like "A" where I could fit under the gap, but the spino could not. Unsure of how much HP the thing actually has, I then prepared around 55 arrows for my bow and then lured it to that arch.
It took ~18-20 arrows to the face for it to die, so I had overprepared. Got a huge amount of XP for the kill (more than half a level) and was finally rid of the jerk :)
On nerfing the southern spawns, I don't really agree. There are fairly safe areas already where players can cut their teeth, where the most dangerous thing they'll encounter would be raptors and sarco.
A new player could remain in those easier lands and amass an army of dilo, raptors, turtles and trikes before ever seeing a carno - at which point the pets they have could handle the threat. If the player wants to venture further than those areas they need to be prepared for what awaits them.
