Why the hell is this game so popular?!

Ive been looking on YouTube at Lets Plays, reviews, commentary, and gameplay of this game. I dont get why its so popular. it looks like Far Cry 3 with dinosaurs and really bad character models. Its an early access survial game... the dribble most commonly shat out by Steam Greeenlight. Is there some new game mechanic they innovated on or something? Are there naked anime girls? Did all of the morons playing all of the other early access survial games make an exodus to this game?

Why is this game any different?
I really want someone to tell me.

Game isn't much different that some aspects of others. Just is working pretty well, has some fun building, and also has a pet system that's enjoyable.

We "moronic nerds" are easily entertained creatures that will throw money at things we deem worthy, and sometimes at things that look worthy but really aren't.

In this case? There's a lot of things to do, and waste time on. Just like any other videogame.

Though I'll give you this, my grandfather doesn't understand my fascination with videogames either, so I can understand how one would be perplexed at what another finds fun. What I don't understand? Why that makes any of us morons because you don't enjoy the same things as a lot of other do.

I'll stick to my base building and dino taming, as well as my nerdy things like Star Trek and building computers. And my waifu dreams.

The game has one of the most incredible and beautiful game worlds Ive seen in many years of gaming, not to mention really neat looking/acting dinosaurs. The survival aspects are good, as well as the crafting. I was interested. i WAS interested. Now I know if I do ever start playing, my fellow players will all be defensive little cokholes. good riddance.

That's why kids will NEVER get it.... you either do or you don't.. Kids like instant gratification or naked boobs in front of them 24/7.... some people can look forward to the long term payoff of leveling, crafting, etc...

Maybe the "morons" playing the other survival games aren't the morons at all and its people like you who need the instant trophy/win/gratification that are the real moron's?

People enjoy this for many reasons but most other survival games are the same rinse and repeat zombie apocalypse crap or a version thereof... just make believe.... in ark it takes you back to the time of dino's and people can see/feel what it might have been like back then and that peaks peoples interest....

why even make a post about it , if you dont like it move on , its been brought out so early for testing its a year away from console , the game will be around £40 mark when its out so its cheaper now than the finsihed product
