Beef Jerky requires oil.........wat?
From the patch notes
Beef Jerky!!! (Sparkpowder+Oil+Cooked Meat or Cooked Prime Meat+hour wait == SUPER LONG LASTING FOOOOOD!)

Oil is already a giant pain in the butt to find and live to harvest and you think we are going to waste all that on a piece of food? Does Beef jerky raise your power level over 9000? If not, bad form.

oil is a stand in they said atm they are adding salt into the game soon and that will replace the oil

Make oil available on the surface. That way people like me with intense, irrational fear of anything and everything below the water line can progress beyond primitive technology. Plus less people will get gangbanged by megalodons. Problem solved.

Trust me friend, on Ark, that fear is very very rational
But it's not a "oh those large fish over there mean to kill me" sort of fear. It's a "that's a fin out there... *shudder*" kind of fear. When in the water it's a "NO GOD GET AWAY SPAWN OF DEMON HELL MOSTERS *SCREAMING*" kind of fear. I can barely keep it together long enough to harvest the meat and loot off of the dead megs that wash up on shore from time to time. Going underwater to get oil is literally not an option for me, especially once they start fleshing out the list of sea creatures. If the giant squid they intend to add gets a little too frisky with the shoreline I may have to quit the game entirely (or at least live exclusively inland).

OK, That makes sense. My tribemate and I are level 18 and 21 and we just crafted the preserving bin only to see we can't really do much with it because there is no way for us to really get oil without dying horribly.
Where do you put thoes items together and wait? Camp fire? Pot?

Some people coat their beef jery with a dusting of olive oil or vergitable oil to make it kinda glossy. It makes the Beef taste like Fish IMHO.

Thats abit different from crude oil lol

Bumb
I agree with Splosions, this seems far too expensive. It should require salt or a drying rack. Something

Indeed, they use plant oils or fish oils do do that, crude oil is not even remotely healthy to ingest...
shouldnt need oil for drying meat. this is a basic survivial tactic that you can do by simply hanging the meat in the sun.
It's sparkpowder OR Oil, not both.

Thank god lol, i am just going crazy wanting to make some jerky and my tribe mates are giving me the evil eye every time i get close to the oil lol.

Incorrect. Both. Also it takes a LONG time to make jerky. I put 2 stacks of oil and sparkpowder in and only got 3 jerky back in 8 hours or real time.
The smoke boxes also have a knack for becoming invisible objects, at least on single player.
They are there, just invisible.

I made 3 for solo play to get jerky production up.
The boxes are great for massivly increasing spoil date on all consumables, eggs , berries, though berries I think do better in a dino gut for storage.
I don't care if the production is slow, as cooked meat rots much slower in the smoker.
Hmm, I made some PRime meat Jerky earlier. So tasty.

How I get my oil in sufficient supply in solo offline play is a fracking secret.

Ofc it needs oil, just like flint destroyed by a bigger rock makes food last longer. Just like in real life.
Honestly, I doubt I'll ever be able to get any tech requiring oil. I have a deep seated hatred of water levels in general, wasting precious level up points so i can swim into an underwater cave to desperately mine out half a dozen oil whilst running out of air and/or being eaten by sharks and probably losing everything seems like an exceptionally cruddy deal.
