Making gasoline- doesn't work?

Read previous posts claiming that you put hide and oil in the refiner, light it with wood and that should turn into gasoline. Tried that, but didn't work. Is the oil-hide ratio supposed to be 1:1?
Only thing I'm getting is charcoal, nothing else happens.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

Only got 2 oil, as luck would have it. We've been struggling to get a steady supply of oil. Maybe some pointers?

Sarcos aint that great, mine is so slow that id drown before reaching oil spots :D

sarco is probably best for hunting em. possibly also increasing the movespeed

Wouldn't you drown as they took away endless underwater breathing on the megalodon? Also heard that the underwater breathing food is broken and can't be crafted atm.

There's a cooking recipe that gives breath capacity. Putting points in to oxygen is also something to consider.

I gave up on the whole oil/gasoline, my generator burns through the gassoline like a monstor truck.
Atm the reward its not worth farming all the oil needed.

Thank you for the helpful comments. I'm at the point in the game that would like to discover most possible aspects, even though I understand it seems a bit pointless farming oil.

dont run them 24/7
one gas lasts for 1 minute

Problem is if you have meat in the fridge you need it up for atleast 3 hours...

or wait for the salt patch.
