Black screen issue?

I know some other people have been having this little issue, at least as of late, but I haven't really found a solution for it, so any help would be appreciated.
I can get through the loading process then I hit the black screen, I can hear the ocean waves and all that, and can also open the steam overlay, so I don't think it's really frozen~
Single player works fine for me, but this always happens (for the past few days I have tried) when I try to get online and play with a few friends.
So yeah, any help on this would be wonderful as I am a little confused on the subject~
