Question about Chitin/Keratin farming

So i'm farming these to make my argent saddle, just curious;

1. Do metal tools let you retrieve more of these from them or only allow you to harvest them faster?

and secondly

Does harvesting with a dinosaur also result in you obtaining less? I notice that for example manually hacking something will get you more meat than opposed to gnawing it till it dissapears

Reason I ask is because I have a high level carno that mashes things up and want to know the fastest method of getting all dat chitin/keratin

i haven't noticed a difference between wood and metal tool.

easiest and fastest way is to get a sabertooth (once you can make the saddle). you'll get more Hides and also Keratin/Chitin with its attack

I use my t-rex to farm Chitin. Whenever I kill a scorpion (takes 1-2 hits max) I get 3-7 Chitin off them. They are bad for Keratin farming though.

Edit: I use the actually T-rex to farm them, meaning I dont jump off the rex and farm them with a pick afterwards.

I can confirm that there is no (noticible) difference between stone and metal tools.
When I harvest them with a raptor I get significantly less chitin than when farming them "by hand".

The fastest way to farm them seems to be caves, both spiders and scorpions give chitin.

I have far better results with Chitin and Keratin using a metal hatchet compared to the stone. I get almost double yield of keratin from turtles and 3-4 more chitin per harvest. I also get more keratin from other animals - stego, saber, trikes & carnos so far however as it is just a higher chance with the metal hatchet it is not consistent.

My problem is usually FINDING scorpions to farm chitin from. I've found one or two near the edges of forests but they're few and far between.

Ok, firstly.. scorpions and spiders are in high density in caves.

Secondly, you can potentially farm up 300 chitin within like 30 minutes to an hour in a good cave.

Just get in, swing with a metal axe to kill AND harvest that way you don't actually hit the stuff you're trying to harvest with a pike. Be careful though, they still have yet to fix the issue of the mobs in caves pushing you through the wall and making you fall through the earth to your watery grave.

Lastly, if you can't find a cave or don't think you have what it takes to survive one, use a dino that kills fast and take out turtles, ankylos, carnos, stegos, scorpions, trikes.. everything that drops chitin/keratin but when the thing you're killing is dead, hop off and harvest with your axe.

Since making this thread i've gotten my sabertooth to lvl 60 with enormous melee dmg, I go to the north central cave with the scorps and spiders and just one shot everything, harvest about 500-600 chitin in 10 minutes then leave

yeah sabertooth is how you farm chitin/keratin

this is what i do look at a picture of a sabertooth and then start crying wishing i had one then my inventory is filled with 500 keratin :)

honestly out of all the dinos and weapons ive used i have found the trex to be the best meat farmer while a sabertooth is the best chittin and keratin farmer by far

Get a saber and level it's melee. You'll get 10-30 every hit.
Need a lot of it? Go farm brood mother's spiders. You'll probably want at least 2 people on 50+ sabers.

Caves are closed content for like 90% of the players who are on pvp servers. Yet you can get chitin/keratin from turtles, triceratops and stegosaurus if you are lucky ;/

Yeah I've found the saber is good at getting chit/keratin
