Perimeter Walls?

I haven't unlocked everything in the game yet due to servers disappearing but I'm just asking about the walls used to be built around your base.

Are those walls the simple wooden walls you use to build your base or are they a speicial kind of wall you unlock at a later level?

I'm just not entirely sure because I can't get the wooden walls connected to my dino gate.

You need to use fence foundations I believe.
