DEVS: How long are we going to be drinking salt water?
Is there a plan to have fresh water lakes and rivers to drink?
Right now we should all be dead from drinking sea water.

How do you know its salt water? How do you even know its taking place on earth and they are not in some weird kind of simulation or something? Maybe its a sea of perfectly drinkable water. :)

Yeah, I really hope that the water surrounding the island becomes undrinkable at some point. Hydration is a bit too easy right now.

I think boiling the ocean water and building rain catchers would be a more realistic option.

They state that it is salt water in one of the creature dossiers.

Well, there is freshwater in the game, if you just look for the rivers and whatnot that flow from the inland areas. But I think it is because for now, they can't really make a distinction. Having to have two different classes of water would be faintly problematic, and be VERY difficult, on the current map, to have be survivable early game. Processing saltwater IRL is a lengthy and expensive process, and there is almost no reliable freshwater access in the game currently except in the high level inland areas. I could see this being a thing on some of the other maps we will get much later on down the line, where there will be different styles of map, but we just can't do it now with current setup without completely screwing people just joining a server.

It's a functional system right now they can fine tune the details down the road.

boiling water does not get rid of salt, it actually makes it saltier because the water evaporates but leaves behind the salts. only way to turn salt water into fresh water is to distil by capturing the condensated water.

Not really, they could just increase the water value of berries a little bit. As it is, I have often survived on just berries when away from water.

It's actually not salt water but is in fact the tears of thousands of murdered and innocent dinosaurs. Slaughtered and tamed endlessly by the pesky humans who always have to control and dominate everything.

So remember the next time you jump in, you're sustaining yourself on tears. Salty tears.

Before I bought this game i was surprised when I saw a youtuber walk into the ocean to get water. Then I figured, must be early access and brushed it off.

What they could do for low level water gathering is just have some cactus styled plants readily available that you can get water from but not appease hunger any. Many of the berries hydrate you and in reality it's safer to get water from plants than from unknown rivers.

Even fresh water supplies should be purified before usage to minimize risk. But that would be a lot for a newbie to figure out honestly.

well it is a fantasy world and that is the only way that is possible. Even fresh water reserves can get you sick and kill you. But I don't think they will go that far in this game.

go up river and it wont be "salty" its just as easy inland as it is at the beach

And we wonder why we're thirsty 30 seconds after drinking.

Sad that people think you can just boil water in a bucket, and it magically turns into fresh water. I guess they learned that from Stranded Deep LOL. Creating a desalinization setup would be a great level 45-50+ blueprint i think. Maybe even make it a drop only blueprint.

Wouldn't make it fresh water, but it does help. Definitely not a perfect or permanent solution, but it would
a- boil out most of the bacteria and nasty bits floating around in there
b- evaporate a large portion of the salt. Not neough to make it a long term solution, but definitely a step up from dunking your face into the ocean and huffing it like we seem to do now
EDIT: Protip: Salt condenses in heat, so the top portion of water can be cupped out and be salt "free", as long as you do it fast right off the heat.. but an entire pot of water would only produce about 1 drinkable cup per boil. DEFINITELY NOT EFFICIENT
