Metal Axe am I missing something?

Amazed at how many metals I got with a metal pickaxe over the stone pickaxe, I bought the metal axe, found 8 metal (yikes!), crafted my shiny new metal axe, went to chop down a tree.... to get no more noticible wood than normal.

What a waste of resources! What a waste of engram! Am I missing something?
It even seems to degrade the same as a stone pickaxe. I kind of expected something here for my precious points. So what am I missing? Help?

I think I have heard that you do get better resources with better tools, but I don't think there is anthing higher then wood from trees. You could probably get prime meat with more ease if you used a metal pick axe and perhaps there is a ore node or animal that needs a metal axe to get better/rarer items like creatin or chitin.

Although Icould becompletly wrong I haven't played much I just I have seen people talk about getting metal or oil easier with a higher tier pick axe.

I have noticed I get more meat with the metal axe but... I don't need more meat when I have a raptor that can gather hundreds in a few minutes.
It just seems not very useful. I do need hundreds and hundreds of wood, can only carry 400-ish back with a trike but I need 80 for each wall, platform whatever etc. 50 for each box....

Dashed expectations. I really was excited and thought I would get more wood with a beter axe. Maybe faster will mean more in the long run, but right now I'm just staring at 8 lost metal.... x.x

Besides what was stated earler I dont see that much of a use of a metal axe besides bace raiding. On the other hand a metal pick is VERY useful and is needed for high lv crafting

it chops WAY faster. I noticed a huge difference once mine broke and I went back to the stone. I also felt like I was getting bigger resource numbers, but maybe that's just because of the speed.

So are they good at destroying structres or damage, I haven't encountered a lot of pvp besides a tribe that killed me after I tried to give them a bunch of chitin and I would really like to use a metal axe as a tomahawk.

Craft what u need while farming, each building piece weighs only 4kg. This way you dont have to lob back and forth.

I do, but if my clan mates are out and I'm not, they can't craft things... and I eat what they bring in a few seconds XD

Train a Trike. It caries alot and collects berries for you.

The whole clan uses trikes. They carry 400 wood. That makes all of 4 walls....
