lots of xp, lv up you chibi if you have one, possible good loot like crossbow up to 200%.
But for alphas you need strong tames, raptor is possibly the only alpha you can kill without tames (i killed my first low level raptor just with sword and shield), carno is a bit like raptor but much more health, Rex is where the real alpha thing starts. You need at least 2 very good (15-25 k health, 1000% melee damage or higher in singleplayer) and mate boosted rexes to try a high lv alpha rex.
Same for all the alphas you'll find at other maps or underwater, don't want to spoil to much :-:
I would say the most dangerous ones are at aberration.
1. 5 character levels are tied to killing alphas while you've got a chibi in tow.
2. Alphas drop gear at times that can be helpful for a player.
3. Alphas can also drop mats related to boss summoning.
4. Having the lore exp boost from explorer notes (and or other xp boosters) and then killing an alpha is a good exp chunk for players.
5. Also related to point 5 if your mounted dino also got the boost or otherwise, alpha killing is a good way to level certain dinos too.
6. Wait til you encounter alpha rex, alpha giga, alpha water dinos, alpha wyverns... etc etc. etc. they make the alpha raptors and alpha carnos seem pretty easy.
When you bite with a thyla, it can hit far out to the left or the right. You can run past an alpha and bit the legs without having to stop. Level up speed a bit, and you can run circles around them, chomping and chomping.
The thyla's bite attack causes massive bleed damage, and over the course of the fight the bleed will actually do more damage then the actual bites.
If you get hit by an alpha, you can use their climbing ability to get away, and heal up if necessary. But a high level thyla won't need to heal much.
A safer, but wayyy slower, method is to use an argentavis. Fly low and slow over the backs of the bigger alphas, and just claw repeatedly. The argentavis's talon attack can be spammed very fast, clawing and clawing. If you stop pressing forward, they argentavis will stall while you attack, with very little forward movement.
If you're attacking an alpha rex, start at the tail, claw all the way up to the middle of the back and turn to the side. The rexes have an INSANE hitbox for bite attacks so by the time you get to the shoulders, it can "bite" you.
Argentavis can just fly away if you get hit badly, and argentivas also get a healing buff when they kill something. So if it gets wounded, fly away from the alpha, snatch up a small animal and kill it. Will get a green cloud with animated plus signs. Then just return to the fight while the healing buff does it's work.
