T-rex follows too close!
I'm serious, this is a big issue when you are high level farming on an ankylo or on foot, the T-rex jaw is so low to the ground that it traps you! Seriously devs, please make the T-rex not follow so close! It's so dumb that once every 2 minutes I have to get off my anylo to make my T-rex back up.

My tribe is very high level and whenever we go out farming metal we bring our anylo and T-rex as a packmule that can fight very well, and for the added protection, and we have all said that this is a serious issue. T-rex's just follow too closely and its so irritating!

I take a rex, two ankylos and a mammoth. The one time I brought two rexes, they got stuck in a massive huddle that took ages to extract them from (or rather, ages until I realised it would be easier to press J when dismounted and wait for them to move).

I find pretty much everything follows too close. I think it was likely done in part to reduce pathing problems since the path AI is so stupid. If the dino follows you really closely, and you're likely to be following a clear path, they're slightly less likely to end up caught up in trees/rocks/beach detritus, etc. The pathing AI doesn't even attempt to unstick itself by pruning the path it was trying to follow and trying a different one instead.

TLDR: I agree!

Following distance still needs to be tweaked a bit further out on all land dino's, I find this infuriating sometimes because they follow so close, they get stuck inside the one you're saddled on and have to jump off and get them to follow till they are split apart enough, pretty much everytime you stop or get stuck on a rock/tree.

Yes, I'd rather they fix this sort of thing than going on rampage adding all this new
crap that they can't code right and end up having to do over and over again.
And again, and again.
But, they won't.

Yes, the T-Rex follows too close and dinos follow T-Rex too close.

Example, Carnos and the like following my lead T-Rex have their nose stuck
up my T-Rex's a n u s. THis leads to all sorts of underfoot issues with a T-Rex
that can get stuck until I dismount and have the follow dino follow me away.

I'd like an adjustable follow distance and for big dinos like the T-Rex the
follow focus point should be near the end of its long tail, not its poop shoot.

I suppose that is just too difficult to code.

I don't care how close they are as long as no getting stuck is involved.

My last building material / metal / obsidian run, I took my Mammoth, Ankylo, and two Carnos out. I primarily rode the Ankylo - who was set to follow me - the Mammoth followed the Anky, and one of the Carnos followed each of the workers. It worked great while we were moving, but as soon as I stopped to switch onto the Mammoth for more wood, the Carno following him delivered a surprise rectal exam, and got the Mammoth stuck until I manually backed the Carno out. If it weren't for Alphas, I'd probably leave the bodyguards at home...

It once took me over 2 hours to get through a forest with 2 dino's because of this issue and lets not get onto ants while i was doing this with 2 nearly dead dino's on a cliff edge :s

Yup. T-Rex gets stuck on you easily with it's head.

Stegos also cause issues because their hitbox is much larger than their body.

Mammoths also catch you and dinosaurs in their tusks, which have oversized hitboxes.

I have tried to move, Riding on a Spino and 3 T-rexes follow me it was impossible to move.
I got so frustrated I had to get off and walk so all would follow me.

I've just about given up on T-Rexes. Between this and the turn radius getting them stuck on every single rock, they're probably my least favorite dino. They're only good as a short range mount.

Even one Rex on follow is enough for making me walk through half of the island instead of riding my Spino. From Central Cave to Eastern shore. With two big Dinos following me.

Oh, or try a Pteranodon on follow sitting on a Spino, that's also funny.

Try fliers; they're just as bad. So frustrating to mine on an Ankylo with Argents to pack mule because the damned birds will get the Ankylo stuck. Follow AI (and dino AI in general) reeeeeeeeeeeeally needs work.

Yeah, I think the rex stops and stands still because he really likes having the carno there.

Even if you're riding a carno with other carnos following, they're so close to each other they often clip together and get stuck in a tangle. Then you have to hop off and J to get them to follow and take a few steps so they move apart, then get back on again. It's frustrating.

The pathing issues need to be worked out along with the following distance.

Plus all the Rex drool in your hair! Yuck!
Defektiv Aug 11, 2015 @ 1:53pm
It's his head. Same with the Ptera following. They stick their heads into the the ass (literally the top of the ass) and then you can't move until you move them away. Try putting a Ptera on follow while riding a Mammoth. Rex does similar with its head. Also makes it harder to keep them on follow while you're manually harvesting resources, as they drive their heads right in front of where you're harvesting and get hit.
