Tusoteuthis.
Adding a creature that gives oil in the environment where oil is as abundant as fiber on land? Why? I get the rest of it, ability to grab a speedy target, ability to ko a target which will be nice for a water mount rather than just the knife fish. I just don't understand the oil part.

None the less I'll be taming a few of these to defend my underwater base via latching on to my enemies and keeping them still for all my other stuff to eat. Nice addition, great as always.

Because, instead of diving deep to get oil, you can have something that farts out oil and can defend itself.

You can find oil on the first shelf of the ocean, that's like 30 feet down lol. Even collecting by hand oil is not an issue. I also doubt the tuso will be in the shallows as squids don't live in shallows, so you're gonna have to dive to tame these guys anyways.

Don't get me wrong it is interesting as a part of the game I guess, just doesn't really add anything. I dunno whatever.

Fine, you have a choice between diving 30 FT easily, or spending a long time taming a giant vampiric squid. Your choice.

i don't know if you have noticed but...almost every dino has some sort of resource specialty---its how the game is going to be. the initial dinos did not really have much specialty--all teh new ones will have roles.

Cant find oil where I am
Take another look at the dossier, the ink does work as oil, it can just get turned into gasoline. Other stuff that oil is used for does not work with the ink. If I am right.

I'm honestly not so hot about these animals that just generate valuable resources.

Getting oil should be a tension-filled endgame task, since it's a key component for many of the endgame items.

This is actually not true very few actually supply a resource like this if you look at the list. Quite a few make gathering said resources easier, but very few outright supply the resource.

They gave it the ability to ko and hold stuff, seems like enough to me. The oil from ink just seems odd as they're only found in an area where oil is literally everywhere you look. That and they added oil to the dung beetle so if a land tribe really wants the oil they'll use the beetle. A water tribe will just go harvest the oil on a dunk or an ichy....

The stuff we have now is not even end-game, what we have now will be like stone is now - above average. (At least that's what I think, we are gonna get Sci fi stuff after all)

I mean I guess a water tribe could just tame 3-4 of these and have their oil needs taken care of.... This is like adding a creature that generates fiber and you can just pick it off, instead of adding the giganto as a fiber picker.

No argument about this they've already said they're adding a tech tree above metal that will be for underwater, watersealed structures. I can imagine there will be another tech above that for land bases that are stronger than metal in the sci fi tier. The argument is having a creature that you can pick oil off of that is found in an area where oil is already insanely abundant. I mean oil in the ocean is like fiber and berries on land, it's everywhere. I get the dung beetles giving oil thing, it's a resource you can't get on land, adding a way to get it is neat. In the ocean I don't get though.

Well, having just one creature for one task, I mean it's enough, but diversity could be a very nice thing tho!

At first I thought I was going to be used to suck oil out of oil nodes when I saw the icon.

This would make about as much sense as the squid's ink being able to be refined into gasoline lol. However it would be more interesting imo. Like the giganto for land tribes.
If I could vote I'd go this route.

Sorry for that, didn't quote the person I wanted to reply to!
Anyway, yea, you are right. But then again, the gasoline might be just small by-product, so you might get smaller amount than you would normally get, and get some advanced material instead ?

Like, you gather the oil, process it, and get like 1 gasoline for 4 other materials that will be usefull once we have other tech/engrams and such in.
