How the hell do I host a dedicated server for my friends and I?

I tried to make a dedicated server, hosted on the same PC I was playing on, before the host dedicated server and non-dedicated session options were added in the host/local menu, it did not work, I could find it in LAN, nobody else could find it. I am pretty sure that is a port forwarding issue, my parents refuse to buy a decent router so I have to use the free router you get with SKY, which has some truly awful router tools, you literally cannot port-forward on it and nothing is labelled.

When I noticed the new non-dedicated serssion options in the host/local or whatever it is called menu, I tried it, nobody could find the server or join it, and it opened up my single player world with my single player character.

I tried the host dedicated server option, and once I had put in the password and name for it and ran it, the game closed and a black command window thing came up with a few lines of white writing. The window had the same icon in the taskbar as ark does, the big "A", I waited, ark did not open back up, so I tried to launch ark agai, but because of the command window (I think) ark never opened because it would tell me it was already running. I waited, it still did not open so I assume it thinks the command window thing is ark.

This is very annoying. The server hosting and session hosting tools do not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ work. You may still need to port-forward, but that was the only part people could have an issue with anyway, because not all routers are the same, some peoples routers cannot port-forward due to their awful management tools.

You should not have to port-forward to play multyplayer with your friends or host a server, literally no other games do this ♥♥♥♥. You cannot get around it with hamachi either, I know it is early acces, but honestly, wtf is this ♥♥♥♥, all this server ♥♥♥♥ they have added into the game does not work.

If anybody can help me host a server on my own pc so that my friends can play (not via lan, my friends and I do not share a bloody room :/ ) I would be very grateful.

Any help is deeply appreciated. I hope somebody will have the answer and others will see this and finally be able to play multiplayer with their close friends for free on their own server.

If you want to run a dedicated and play on it at the same time.. you cannot use the ingame dedicated option. Instead you need to read the server advertising forum stickies. This would inform you that you need to launch the dedicated from the binaries folder where you installed the game... and to do this properly you will need to create a .bat file to launch it with the parameters you want.

So the reason you are having issues is because you didn't do enough research.

Thanks man, I already knew about all this though, but it did not work, you need to do port-forwarding, sadly the sky router management tools are very poor and do not allow for port-forwarding. It seems there is no way to do this without port-forwarding... :/ Anyway, thanks a lot though :)
