I agree, im lvl 70 and explored about 1/3 the map. Not even seen a cave. I feel like I have a BIG part of the game to check out still.
I think the intent maybe , build base near forest, chop down forest, new resource nodes pop up near by as replacement. I think it's done by hand now.
Bohemia was able to sell it's map making software (specifically the engine) to different militaries specifically for it's ability to generate maps very well. I've heard map making is one the more time consuming processes of developement.

You could spend hours just moving a small bit on that world map. Then you got boat travel to other maps. Zoming in at the max you might be able to see large towns lol.
Granted ARK is still just a small Island rigth now that can be traveled over by air in a few mins, I wonder how big it will be when they add new maps. I wonder if the maps will be connected for travel as well.
