NEW ENTRY LEVEL FLYING MOUNT
Reaching level 10 grants access to the ocean in the form of the Ichthyosaurus saddle engram, but the earliest players can get airborn is level 35. If you ask me, we could use a little something before that.

Additionally, there is only one confirmed arthropod (bug) that can be ridden, and that is the scorpion. (Dung beetles might be rideable, but there is currently no indication that they are.)

The best way to fill both of these gaps is with a large beetle, like a prehistoric Hercules or Stag Beetle.

It could be similar to the Carbonemys in its stats: not the best melee damage, but high in health to make it dangerous to both survivors and other creatures. To justify its saddle engram unlocking at, say, level 15, it could be slower than the Argentavis is in the air and unable to pick up anything larger than a dodo.
This would not be something to travel across the island on, but it would allow new survivors to explore the previously unreachable plateaus and hazardous mountains, bypass the walk to a nearby friend's base, and get a feel for flying around the island before unlocking the Pteranodon saddle.

Thoughts?

Flight are considered the end-game. Once you have an argentavis, nothing can stop you.

You can speed-travel using a Ptero
You can transport goods across huge distance without getting attacked by land dinos using an Argen
You can ferry a player and that player can attack while airborne.
While airborne, you can grab players/dinos and he can do nothing, unless he has a weapon.

That is the reason why the devs put it later in the levels.

And flight should be only available then.

EDIT : And also, we do not want you to accidentally press E while in flight and then died. Afterwhich you come to the forum and shouted to the DEVs asking flight to be NERFED.

Generally flying is a much greater acheivment then ocean going, not to mention holds a far higher value strategy wise. I think flying comes in right about where it needs to I wouldn't change the lvl requirement ( if I did put it at 30 maybe ) its a good spot where players should have a good grasp on land and maybe water if they are so inclined to it.

There is such an advantage to those higher locations and lowering a saddle to lvl 15 for a flying mount would mean those area's being full of low levels when they really need to be out about on land doing stuff.

Now perhaps a small-medium sized dino just a bit smaller then the pteranadon you can grab on to and make long glides from high places....now that might be fun to see at lvl 15 and makes sense honestly. It's not hard to get a high postion and gliding can net you a good distance traveled at a reasonable speed.

As I've described it, this beetle would offer little more advantage than the Carbonemys. You can use it to access areas you can't on your own, and it can take a beating. The difference being that the Carbonemys is outclassed as a mode of transport by a creature you can ride at level 10.
It only has 3 things in common with the Ptero and Argent: it can fly, you can ride it, and it can pick up Dodos.
It would give players an advantage over lower-level players, but isn't every creature you tame supposed to do that?

let's please leave animal space for dinosaurs. i think the animal developers forgot about this being a dinosaur game

Level 35 is absolutely fine for the first flying mount. Flying is something special, gives you a totally new perspective on the game. Especially when you play for the first time and don't know the layout of the land yet. So, no... They should leave it as it is. And people will be all the more happy once they reach lvl 35.

Alright, what if there was a restriction on how high they could fly above ground level? Level with a Bronto's head, maybe?

I think it is fine where it is. If you want to fly before level 35, trade for a saddle. I'm sure there is a tribe somewhere in need of stone or some other low level resource. It really doesn't take that long to get to level 35.

This. You can tame any animal at any time so all you really need to get your hands on is a saddle which isn't that hard given you have something worth trading. I don't think a mid-range animal would be that big of an addition. It's nice to have something to work for.

really i think its at a good state atm, if i would have gotten a flyer sooner i doubt i would know the lay out as well as i do, hell i lost a flyer and had to walk back from the center to the coast, if i had been lvl 10 or so i would have died so many times i would have gotten pissed off, granted that is me
