Alpha Rex
I don't know about most people, but I feel like this thing adds way too stupid of a difficulty for people who are already living in a difficult area to live in. I personally just experienced 2 medium level alpha rexes spawn in at the same time just barely up river from my tribe's home. These things are ten times stronger than the Broodmother, making something that was optional insignificant to something that is forced upon you. The thing makes it dangerous to go outside of your own house when they just keep spawning this close. I don't know if this is a server thing, or an issue with the Alpha Rex, but it definitely should not spawn without some sort of effort to make it spawn if it is this powerful.

Has anyone else had issues like this today? Do other people think this thing is as ridiculously stupid as I do? (Since it basically forces you into endgame, when you are nowhere near strong enough).

From what I am hearing only the high level ones are really strong. Doesn't your tribe have any dinos too fight with?

No offense but the game is extremely easy once you get a good tamed dino or 2. It NEEDED something scary.

wow you can die in a survival game? NOOO!!!
crayhack Aug 6, 2015 @ 1:14am
We tried fighting it with a 92 rex, with 2 turtles that have over 15k health, and sabers while someone shot down on it with an assault rifle. The thing was level 40 and it 3 shot the rex immediately, it's nearly impossible to kill.

And Necromonger, what I am talking about is the ridiculousness of the fact that we can't leave our base now because the Alpha Rexes spawn at about 1 every hour, and don't die. They 1 shot people and no single dino can fight them.

LMAO!

on the bright side, once the other dinos were dead, i discovered that a saber is only barely fast enough while sprinting and jumping, even then taking a few hits before freedom

It 3 shot a level 92 rex? What kind of saddle did it have? Also how much health did it have?

A good Rex will have at least 10k health, and even a basic saddle has 25 armor. Even if the Alpha is doing 1500 damage a hit, then the saddle drops that to about 1100. It still would take about 9 bites to kill a 10k rex.

We had to bum rush taming the rex because these things spawned in while we were just grabbing some new dinos. They all spawned in and we had to lead them to a somewhat secluded spot a little ways away from the base but they were still a danger so we were forced to fight them. The rex had only about 4-7 levels on it before that. The issue I see with the alpha rex is that it is way stronger than the Broodmother, and you don't have a choice in the matter, they can just spawn and ruin your day without any warning.

it was a 35 armor saddle, so it was negating about 25% damage (if the wiki is correct with 1/(armor/100+1))

i'm really curious to see more input on this, how damage he really deal and who managed to take him down to see if he is really worth it ...

I stay tuned !

The Alpha Rex should really only spawn in a specific location on the map, or a small area, and should not roam outside of it. The thing is so ridiculously OP at higher levels that there is simply no fighting it for peopel without the best of the best rolled apex predators.

I don't mind there being a real monster out there. I do mind that it can just randomly spawn ontop of the base I've put dozens of hours into building before I even knew this thing existed.

Also the number of wild Alpha spawns that can exist on the map at a single time should be limited. No more than one or two of these things should exist at a time, with a hefty respawn time.

Even if it's annoying for you i have to say that this sound cool.
Not that he spawn just outside your base, that's a pain in the a**, but the fact that there is such a powerfull creature out there.
Would love to see more very powerfull dinos, but probably they'd need a better balance.
The alpha rex seems damn powerfull and also fast, maybe if it would be less fast it would be more balanced and players would have the chance to run away.
I'm just throwing here what comes to my mind, i haven't played since they added it so all mu knowledge is based on a 5 min youtube video and some comments on the forum.
See you on the Ark survivors :)

That sucks then. It sounds like you guys are just starting out. You may want to setup another base in an easier place and level some pets.

A large portion of the community feels that the game really is not "scary" even with really hard server settings.

Out of curiosity, where is your base?
Lilkinsly Aug 6, 2015 @ 1:46am
Another note. Stone walls are 100% immune to dino damage. Make them 3-4 high and it shouldn't get in. In fact you can pull it to your wall and pike it in safety from behind your wall.
Vandragorax Aug 6, 2015 @ 1:47am
It's still a dumb dino. You can still lure it away from your base with say, a Pteranodon, and get it stuck on a cliff face or rock etc. where you can then shoot it to death with arrows. Yes you will need a lot of arrows, yes you might need some tribe mates to help, but it's easily possible to do.

I wish people would stop knee-jerking with these "NERF THE NEW THING I CANT HANDLE IT!" threads... just learn to adapt to a new situation and think about how you can deal with it. If a head-on assault doesn't work, then get sneaky.

I love the fact this new Alpha rex is making people freak the ♥♥♥♥ out lol... instead of us having a survival game where after you tame your first dino there's nothing to be scared of anymore.

And as mentioned above, make your base from stone and it can't get in. Make your base on top of a big rock with a ladder entrance, it can't get in. There are many many tactics you can use.

You can't do that anymore, they fixed damaging dinos through walls thank god. You need to use a window hole to attack through instead.
