Bear Traps OP or I''m I missing something?
So I have slightly tested out bear traps today with the new patch. Now I have only tested the small bear traps and only with another tribemate and myself. So basically what I'm noticing is that they seem to be a little to powerful at the moment. As an example. I put down a small bear trap and walked into it. Once I was immobilized I noticed I couldnt unspring the trap or even interact with it at all. Even being my own trap. I then saw that it begins to decay slowly once I stepped into it. I tried to pike it to speed up the decay rate but it doesnt seem to do damage. So I was stuck in my own trap slowly watching it decay until a tribemate came and was able to demolish it. Worst part is I was low on food/water when I stepped into the trap and apparently once you are immobilized by it you cannot eat or drink. It also seems to last way to long on players at the moment. I was in it for a good 2 - 3 minutes and it wasnt even half decayed.

So whats stopping me from hiding these all over the forests or my base? Players will easily die from starvation or dinos if they get stuck somewhere. We should at very least be able to pike the traps to speed up decay. Sitting in a trap for 5+ minutes while not being able to eat or drink is outrageous. I could easily make a nice pattern of traps in my base and either use a large dino to get past or memorize the pattern.. It would make my base virutally impregnable.

I'm I missing something here? Was it just glitched and you are indeed able to hit them to speed up the decay? Do they have a decay if they sit in the world to long? I just dont see whats stopping people from filling forests/resources areas or bases with these?

Well. They most likely will, if they have the resources.

I haven't tested them myself but that ^ sounds awful! I hope they aren't that strong, otherwise people will grief with them.

It sounds like they are the first game that has made them right, you should be stuck there until someone frees you that's what there ment to do it does suck you can't eat or drink but other than that there perfect

They probably want the time to be long because everyone cries about offline raiding and this will give your base more annoyances that other players will be like I really dont want to raid the guy with ten billion bear traps i have to get through. I havent tried them yet myself but can you pike it death before it grabs you or can someone else pike it?

Well the problem is that they are a little to good even if its realistic. It should not take you 5+ minutes of sitting there not being able to do anything. Maybe 2 minutes would be fine. Or just keep the decay rate as it is but allow you to influnce it with your pike (get out faster). They also are sooo damn cheap to make. I could of made hundreds just as I logged in. They also pretty much make narcotic tripwires obsolete. I could put someone in a bear trap for longer and knock them out whenever I felt like it.

It needs to be tweaked. As it stands I could put them EVERYWHERE. No one would be able to tame or get resources or get in their own base if I didn't want them to. Its a nice feature and I like it but its making a lot of other things pointless. How would you feel if you woke up one morning stepped outside your front door and there is 200 hundred bear traps and no way around them? And those 200 hundred bear traps took me maybe 30 minutes to make?

EDIT: There doesnt seem to be a limit on how many you can place or areas you can place them. Trust me once people catch on to this (I probably shouldnt of posted about it but oh well) they will be all over every server. Its the ultimate troll tool. Maybe they can be blown up with explosives?

they are working absulut fine now the only way to get out of them fast is a tribemate who destroys it. and in my opinion you should stuck in them till they decay or a friend helps you and opens them. thats how beartraps work and should work. if you run around like ♥♥♥♥ and not watching your surroundings than its you fault. Its metal and like all metal structures they only can be damaged with explosives.

By your reasoning the traps only last 6 mins and a friend can destroy it for you. That's no where near enough time to starve or die of thirst. I can be AFK in the game 2 hours without dying of either.

It takes over 6 mins to die of thirst/hunger even AFTER your hunger/water bar is gone.

No ones going to die to these traps directly. A lot of tamed Dinos will just end up trapped while the players jumps off and destroys the trap or waits.

They are going to be used to ambush players as intended.
can people see who placed the trap?
Zerim 5 AGO 2015 a las 16:30
It sounds like you got stuck in your own bear trap, and became trapped. I believe it's working as intended :)

If you can memorize a maze of bear traps that you place in your base, kudos to you.

We need the new bear traps for the Alpha Rex. :P
Azta 5 AGO 2015 a las 16:38
The only problem i see here is that you can't eat/drink in the meantime.
But everything else seem to be perfect with the trap.
It supposed to keep away the griefers/raiders. And its also supposed to trap them.
Gh0st78 5 AGO 2015 a las 17:46
The main point here is that it seems these traps are lasting to long on players. I havent actually tested the entire length of a trap yet ( I will do so soon) but I was in the trap for around 2 minutes and it wasnt even half decayed at that point. Now I know some people are saying this is working as intended and that tribemates can just get you out or your dumb if you cant see them.

Well I can make hundreds of these no problem and hide them in every bush on the server if I wanted. Good luck seeing them. Especially with higher graphics and ground clutter. I don't know about you guys or your tribemates but I personally don't want to have to spend my entire time on the server helping friends out of traps. Getting stuck for a few minutes every time you walk through a forest is BS. The length would be fine if you could actually help the thing decay faster.

Even a minium of 2 minutes would be ok. Thats still enough time to headshot someone or get them killed by dinosaurs etc. I mean without testing it I can't tell you the exact time limit but I was easily at 2 minutes with the trap being over 50hp.

Now I'm not a troll but honestly whats stopping me from filling my server with these? Every bush or large ground clutter area? Some people get off on doing such things to players. Until you experience this firsthand please dont say stuff like "Your dumb if you cant see them" or "Tribe members can get you out of them". Right now its just the ultimate troll tool. 3 - 4 minute complete immobilization where you can't eat or drink. I can see forests and caves and metal mountains being filled with these now.

And they only last like 1 minute on none tamed dinos.. Makes sense..

How do the traps work on PVE servers?
I mean, can you trap other players still with them? If so, can anyone break them?
Sanquin 5 AGO 2015 a las 17:58
This makes griefing players way too easy. Put trap down in front of someone's gate. Wait in the bushes until someone walks into it. Shoot that someone without any chance of harm to you, taking all the time you need. As they can't go and even look for you for a good 5~6 minutes.

Base griefing was already a huge problem in pvp servers. Now they added easy player griefing to it as well. Great... Glad I don't play on pvp servers.

I do think the fact you cannot eat or drink is pretty silly, a beartrap binds your leg, but your arms/hands are perfectly fine, and realisitcally, if you could deal with the pain, you could probally pry the trap open enough irl if you have the strgenth to get your foot out of it.
