Waiting for My Flyer to land

I was making a metal raid up on a mountain,
Was stung by Scorpion and ran and jumped on my Pteranodon
Flew away, and fell off unconscious a short distance later. Luck would have it I woke up and my Flier is above me.
So I have made a small camp with Fire sticks and gathered berries.
My PT is above me but out of call range I guess.
Will it eventually descend? Or should I make my way back to my base?


I did search but didn't really have any luck.
New to the flying thing.

In my experience they end up 'perched' in mid air. I see many of them sitting in the sky (tamed usually). Best bet is to use a spyglass to zoom in and press the J(follow) command. Or get another flying mount to get up there to grab it. Spyglass are common to get I'd try that option first. People have also used tranq arrows to bring them down too.

I had to tranq mine with bow he was to high to use j/u or if you have get a new one just to get to it down, as far as i know.

He is just flapping in one spot up there.
I will head back to camp(If I make it) and grab my one spy glass I have.

Future tip: Leave them on Passive and keep an eye on predators. It saves a lot of stressful rescue missions. Another option-if you fly tandem-gett one bird to follow the other, one is aggressive one is passive. This leaves some defence and also stops the initial one from flying away.

It is a great game and YES it also is about learning what not to do.
I learned NOT to put my Dino on aggressive. THE HARD WAY.

If press "J" (by default) without a Spyglas not work, take a Spyglas, look at your Pteraton and press "T" (by default). Maybe you must try it multiple times (at different Spots you looking at the Ptera) but it should work.

The Spyglass thing seems hit or miss according to people on my server. Never tried yet myself. Other than that, OP, no..the flier will never land if you fall off while it's in midair unless you had it on follow mode.
You are going to have to get close enough to remount or call it from whereever it is in midair. Some people get a ride/carried to get close enough, build a ladder, etc. Good luck.

Spyglasses tend to work most of the time but on rare occasions when taming high up in the mountains and bringing your tame home, it'll get stuck super high in the sky, about the same height as the treekline.

In those instances a spyglass wont work and any form of follow didn't work as well. WIth it being an argent it'll just stay in the sky and flap until it starves......

I had this bug and thankfully after 2 hours my gf came home. We loaded her up with a saddle and parachute, flew her up and dropped her on the mount so she could fly it safely to the ground. At least it felt like we were doing some cool mission impossible stunt to rescue our bird.

I am alone right now rest of Clan are at RL work. So I am taming another, Just farmed for a saddle and am waiting for the tame. My old Flyer is too awesome looking. Orange and Black Tiger stripes. Funny thing is way lower level then this one I am taming, It is just a green and brown.
Thanks for everyone's input. I will let you know if and when I get it. Been two in games days so it might be dead(it had 20 plus meat but they rot so fast.

No. She was dead by the time I got back there.
So sad. She was just hanging in air WAY UP. Still is as far as I know.
I did tame another one, but so basic.. ARGGGG. Thanks anyways.
This one does not have the awesome Orange Black colouring that she did.

Oh well Now I know.
