Sea Creatures and their Size
Dear Devs,

First I need to tell you guys that you do an amazing Job with the constant updates to the Game. I could convince my Girlfriend and her Brother to buy the game as well so we can Play together on my dedicated Server.
I do hope ARK will not share the same fate like Day-Z did.

One Thing that bothers me a bit are the Sea Creatures and their Size. When I saw the Megalodon for the first time I tought that it must be a Baby megalodon and as I Progress throughout the world I get the see a real matured Megalodon. Now I am Level 46 and still nothing.

I am a bit dissapointed to see and Tame Great White Sharks rather then to Encounter a real Megalodon.

A real Megalodon is larger then a T-Rex and easily more then double the size of a matured Great White (Megalodon equals the Size of the Largest Whale on the Planet with roughly 20Meters in Length) . And in Ark it is the other Way around. The T-Rex in Ark is more realistic in his size then the megalodon is. That also reflects the Size Comparison to the other big Plesiosaraus which is quite big too. And we have not even yet started with the actual real big Monsters of the depth.

Not sure if this will be adjusted with time, but if not I would love to see a "REAL" Megalodon to roam the depths as a Boss Encounter for example. Not so oversized then the Battlefield 4 Version but big to make you think twice if you wanna farm oil near him or not ;)

Just my thoughts :)

PS: The inactive Volcano...could he erupt once with a patch that may Trigger an extinction Event and you have to survive ?

Like an Event where a new ingram will be made available for you to build a "Boat" like a Noah's Ark with a certain time Limit which will not be Displayed with a timer on your Monitor, but rather those 3 massive Arks giving a distinctive Alarm Sound, indicating an imminent Eruption, too make things more realisitic, and which will unlock a new Island that you must first find.

Include Stormy Weather on the Sea to make things more difficult and unleash the Monsters of the depths :)

Sorry if you find any gramar issues but I am just Brainstorming right now ;)

+1 i also thought the megalodons are too small.

I like the "events" idea. Have them be rare like every couple hundred days (relative to the default settings). I don't want to turn it into a "mission" but just an event to survive.

I agree that aquatic animals should be a liiiittle bigger. I could forgive the Meg, but I had to squint and say "is... that a Pleisiosaur?..." When I first saw it. From the dossier, I was expecting it to be the Bronto of the seas.

One thing to consider though when asking for size increases.
I have my Meg in a bay that I can barely squeeze him into as it is. If they were to suddenly increase the size of the Megs, chances are I'll never be able to get him back out again.
So long as enough warning is made in advance, I could move it out to the ocean in preparation.

__________

As a side note, the "Extinction" event would make a good game mode.
Everyone starts off at level 1 with nothing. You have 2 hours before the Extinction event.

Volcano erupts.

After 2 hours the Volcano erupts and the world becomes covered in ash and lava and food & water sources dwindle. Last man alive wins.

Meteor Strike
After 2 hours a meteor shower arrives which get progressively worse until "the big one" hits. Last man alive wins.

Climate Change
After 2 hours the effects of melting ice caps reaches the Ark. The world begins to fill with water. As the sea level rises, the race to the highest point begins. Last man alive wins.

But maybe this should belong in another thread to prevent changing this topic too much.

they addressed the sea creature size in a digest a while back i think it was basicly that there needs to be room for the rest of the sea creatures that are being added and also something about not being able to increase map size

Hi,

megalodons size is just fine, the field of view make it seem too small but in reality ingame megalodons are close to 17/18m (which is the normal size)

I'll put a link if I find the last thread on this subject ;-)

They have also spoke about some how "seperating" the ocean from the land to make more use of the ocean that would'nt be impacted by the land dino population/limitations.

hmmm i wonder how they will do that...add a loading screen or something when you enter the ocean??

To solve the Problem with "Parking" our Sea Animals, the devs could introduce different parts to build like a mobile Floating "Cage". Something similar to the open water fishing farms near the shores, or something similar like in Deep Blue Sea, they have also some sort of open water Cages for the Sharks. You can then also put a "leash" on 1 Point and let the mobile water base move around to relocate to a better spot, for example when you build a new base somewhere else, so you don't Need to fly or ride very far.

Your Sea Animals will remain safe in the ocean while you do something else.

For the Events. I think even a massive Tidal Wave could be implemented like after a massive storm or an earthquake. Anno 2060 did a pretty sweet Showcase that Tsunami like waves are possible with todays Hardware.

Damn I have way to many ideas for Ark as you have some many Options that could be implemented.
Tekknic 2015 年 8 月 3 日 上午 5:14
I am not sure. Maybe similar to the cave system? I could see that working after being so far away from the beach. Having that happen at the beach would be a nightmare which is why I don't think it would happen.

volcanic eruptions could clean out a big pile of abandon bases

i mostly destory those with dino if i can
Jøsephi Krakøwski 2015 年 8 月 3 日 上午 5:20
I think they talked about the volcano when the game came out and they talked about a working volcano saying things like "you can drag somebody and drop them into volcano". I mean, they can add lava to it but problem is with eruptions. They cant make like working liquid cuz it would kill all CPUs except perhaps NASAs :D . So it would need to be scripted / animated and than they need to program the effects when that happens and things like trees to be able to set on fire etc and that takes time. I think we will get working volcano but it will take long and its not #1 priority on the pipeline :P

I don't think the sea area is big enough to fit a realistic megalodon and then some other creatures.

Yeah I'm surprised at the size but then again looking at the deep oceans "area" I guess I can see why the deep sea creatures aren't "realistic" it doesn't bother me much though because really you only see sharks often. Not so much the pleisis.

I hope they expand upon the deep oceans and add more islands/underwater caves. Maybe even connect those caves so there's more than one way to attack those islands/super secret bases.
