At level one you can knock one out without TOO much effort if you don't mind the chase and be patient enough for them to get stuck on a rock. I also believe they're the first dino you can make a saddle for. So they're good early game dinos to tame.
They can keep up with you quite easily if you're on foot and they're following you, carrying extra supplies like camp fires, meat, house supplies etc.
And, since they've started to poop, they're great for maintaining a good sized farm. They defecate very rapidly so making fertilizer is quick and mostly painless!
