16GB RAM AND I STILL EXPERIENCE LAG!
I have just recently received a new MacBook pro with 16GB ram and games like minecraft runs smoothly. But them comes my favorite game, ARK evolved, and I can barely move around even on low settings. Is it the mac? because i have seen that some fellow players can play medium settings with 8GB ram. It is quite frustrating and i really enjoy the game.

Please help.

PS On my activity monitor it says the game runs on 13GB of ram during play, with no other program running.

its could be because the rest of your mac isnt able to run it

Comparing Minecraft (which doesn't even touch your GPU really) against Ark which is a highly non-optimized Alpha is a bad joke.
And from what I know the Mac version of Ark doesn't run that well, but you likely need to lower your graphics settings you won't be running it on Epic or likely even High settings.

I upgraded my PC to 16GB when I bought this game (up from 8), and it's only recently that I've started experiencing extreme lag... and I host a sever while I'm playing! The server stays at around 2.5GB, and the game USED to require the same (maybe more at 3 to 3.5), but since the updates to the game this week it's jumped to nearly 7GB. (On high settings, mind.) I can't say for certainty whether it's your MacBook or the game, but the problems you (and myself and many other players) have seemed to escalate this past week. Some players with much more monstrous computers than I experience more problems than I had, so it's sort of inconsistent, though it's definitely a demanding game.

Do you think you only need RAM to run smoothly a game like this?
To play a game like this on 1080p and everything on Ultra , you would need a Gtx Titan Z.

There isn't any Mac around with a good gpu like this.

Your pc isn't enough to play the game on high resolution , set the res on 1280x720 ( HD) and the settings on medium . You might get 30 fps

This indicates you're using an onboard GPU, which use ram as vram. Sorry that's why it lags. You just need a dedicated GPU.

He didn't say which model of the Mac pru, he has .

There is one with Intel Iris Pro Graphics , the other with Intel Iris pro Graphics and AMD Radeon R9 M370X.
If it has only the integrated gpu, he can't play the game :p

Even if he did had the one with the built in Radion card.. That isn't exactly a powerful unit, they'll be lucky to run things on medium settings.

Since it is a Mac, upgrading to 32 GB would be the ticket.
As we all know, RAM equals processing power on a Mac.

So, just buy more RAM , guy.

Why the.. f... Okay, Mac's are not gaming computers for one, they arnt, i have a mac, linux and windows PC, Mac's are ♥♥♥♥, always have been and probbably always will be for gaming, and that's the desktops, and your complaining about a macbook not working? Gee i wonder why, when the majority of their hardware is something like 15 years out of date. i have an nvidia BFG7950 on one of my older windows computers, that card was the last card made specificly for windows XP, And it runs ark just fine,medium settings granted but runs with a steady 35 fps, which is quite frankly given the age of the tech astonishing, Especially given it's a DDR1 Machine if you want to run games, get a windows PC, you can spend say, maybe $600-$800 and get a damn decent gaming rig that will last for awhile and is cheap to upgrade, and is about 2-4 times more powerful on average then - say for example, that stupid $9000 mac that came out a few years agom Mac's are great for work, they are ♥♥♥♥ for gaming, always have been, which is why alot of games simply dont run on, or are watered down to hell to be able to be played on them ._.;

To clear things up: RAM has nothing to do with your systems performance. RAM doesn't calculate anything. RAM is only used by your cpu and gpu as a source of the data it needs to process things. You can have 1000gb of ram and you will not be able to play this game. As long as your RAM is never full RAM doesn't matter. The CPU and GPU make the calculations. Why do people use computers if they don't even know how they work?

Mistyped a few bits that have been fixed, i KNOW very well what a mac is, it's a work computer, i use them all the time at work, have one on my desk in the front room, As for what ignorance iv'e said, i'm not certain, as all i have pointed out you have just confirmed yourself.

Why do these posts always turn into children spamming uneducated hate?

The original poster is simply misinformed (or quite literally has no idea in the first place).
He has already been informed to his mistakes....... Get on with your life and use the forums for what they are here for. Suggestions, help, and feedback.
