Your favorite map location?
I'm wanting to relocate to a new area. I've mostly built bases on the lower left quadrant of the map. Where are some of your favorite spots on the map to build?

If you really want an amazing mining operation, set it up at the northwest obelisk on top of the mountain. It's amazing for metal, crystal, flint, stone and obsidian. Put your base nearby and get a bird for travel. You're all set.

Northeast, there's a small lake (shows on the map) surrounded by cliffs with three passes in/out. My favorite spot. Gate the passes and let your dinos wander your enormous natural compound.

On another note, i personally very much enjoy North 2. A little bit in the forest, down a rocky little path, there is a nice lake in a sort of crossroads valley surrounded by cliffs. Wall of the 4 entrances, build a badass base protected from aerial attacks, and enjoy your beautiful badass looking area. :-)

Nice for hunting, there are 3 mountains in the vicinity, surrounded by forest so wood galore and decently well hidden and just dangerous enough to XP through those early levels.

But i mainly advise that in local. On a PvP server people can parachute down, fly in.... What not.

Oh look at that! :-) Not the only person to like that place. And indeed, i was mistaken, 3 entrances not 4.

I was thinking up by that obelisk. There is a sweet waterfall area up there that looked pretty cool.

this place is my home fortress on single player and the PVP server I play on. it would be nice if we could have the trees spawn back in though, feels a little empty after everyone harvested the area clean.

I would NOT let my dinos wander around though. Easy to snipe from the cliff-tops. ;-)

EDIT : Again, this is PvP i'm talking about. PVE and Local you're fine.

The hidden lake is a common spot for large tribes since they can fortify it, problem is defending it from flyers picking on your Dino...

Longitude/latitude:

55/90: has some great rock formations you can build on and almost no dinosaurs spawn on that section of beach.

15/25: huge flat area on a cliff overlooking the water.

40/15 waterfall/cliff locations and all the biomes smashed really close together with lots of T-rex spawns.

70/35: crazy tall rocks and canyon river.

Either of those two islands if you want a challenge.

Private server/Solo: Northeastern Island aka Dead Island. It provides challenge as well as a fantastic location for both creative and strategical building. Underwater cave at the northeastern corner and hardest cave on island. I'm biased towards islands though.

Official Server: West Zone 3, the spawn near the peninsula. Around 56 latitude/25 longitude. There's both a flat area with only two passes and cliffs that act as walls, and down the hill there's a small spot which is 75% covered by a tall hill. Every dino and resource is close by.

That lake in the NE is called The Hidden Lake, its what you see in the trailer at the beginning with the rex. I just moved from Drayo's Cove in the SE to the lake just to see what the hubbub is about. It is pretty nice. Just have to walk out of the canyon and you have tons of wood. As others have said, its close to several mountains so crystal/obsidian/metal won't be too big a deal, and there's a cave on Dead Island, which is just off shore from you. Only possible issue might be oil, haven't heard anyone say there's massive oil clusters in the north. But a little exploring could prove me wrong. I'm staying there.

Either way, hope you find a great spot for your next base.

We have turrets, lots of little flyers and a roofed area to protect raptors/scorpions. All our wandering stuff is basically garbage we don't care about. We have something like 43 dinos. Nobody has seen fit to really mess with us.

We've got a gigantic enclosed aquatic pen in the river to the east. We have zero problem finding tons of oil around dead island.

Looking for adventure? Set up in the middle of the map.
Looking for lame turtles and seashells? Set up on the coast.

^-^
