Dimorphodons are very hard to tame
It might be my server settings, but I barely managed to tame a lvl 1 Dimo after it killed me twice. In 1 hit it took out my hide gloves, and 50% all of my hide armor. It took 4 tranq arrows with abt 3 seconds between each shot. I'm lvl 29, And player damage is at 1.5 and player resistance is at 1.0. What the hell?

The hardest part is hitting them. The FOV always puts them outside attack sight with the bow or any weapon. Running far enough away to hit them is not easy to do unless you have a raptor. But then gain a lvl 1 Dimo shouldn't take more than 1 tranq shot, don't you think?

I put 4 arrows in a lvl 17. Ended up punching it out with my X-bow.
I'm lvl 74 in full metal arounr though :)

It's because of their messed up hitbox. If you hit anything but the head or the torso (like the wings and the tail) it looks like you hit but it won't have any effect.

I posted a couple images as proof. It was not quite 50% to armor, but for lvl 1 that's insane.

@ElgarL: I'm surprised I saw a guy do it with 1 tranq arrow, x-bow on a lvl 4 Dimo. Weird, huh?

@tom_gore: yeah, I did notice 2 or 3 arrows in the wings. Damn, the head is so tiny though!

its not actually the hitbox, part of it is the server talking to the client, and the server not trusting the client side information. where i was registering hits on a dimorph i was trying to knock out, my friend nearby was seeing misses. the server was registering that i missed even though on my screen the dimo was turned into a porcupine.

Yea can confirm. Shot a dimo ( or so it looked it) that I was trying to tame and all of the sudden had a wild steggo (which was behind the dimo) come charging.

Client said Dimo, server said Steggo, server always wins on this game ;)

I picked up a level 16 with 2 tranq arrows. I waited til it landed and walked up and shot it square in the face. After i ran a few steps and turned it was coming for my face and I shot it again head on. Done. Very exhilarating. I tried shooting while flying and kept hitting the wings and tail. Wasted a ton of arrows. Now I just wait for them to land. I have 4 now and I love them. Good luck.

Tamed me a lvl 112 last night. They are tough to hit on a scorp since they fly higher than the hit area most of the time. Also they like to focus on the rider, not the scorp so had to use alot of cooked meat since I forgot my blood bags. They are very good defense dino so I'm not surprised they are difficult to knock out.

I got a pack of them atm, 11 or more, pull them with an argent, lead them back to my pen and get onto a scorp, sting it a few times while the argent tanks it. Dimorphs loose torpor really fast especially at low level combined with a low torpor. Fun to see a pack of them eat a big wild dino in 1 pass.

Thanks guys, so I guess there is a pattern to it. Just wait until you can hit them head on, and of course get them when they are down for a moment.

Ok, so one thing that I've noticed, and has helped me a lot. They don't seem to fly at night. You can just walk up to them and pump a few tranqs in them while they are grounded.

Hope this helps!
