The arrows on the other hand? what a waste.
The Arrows are probably fine but the bow needs to be cheaper, have significantly increased durability, or both.
Here is why:
The Compound bow has you pay significant "upgrade" costs vs what the bow and xbow cost... but with apples to apples comparison it is barley better than the bow and flat out worse than the xbow. (50 arrows to break and only 10 more damage than the base bow which is still less than the xbow) that is using Stone arrows.
BUT WAIT! I hear the the cries "it's not supposed to be used with stone arrows" except you can use them which means it is meant to use them, especially in light of the fact that metal arrows CANNOT be used with the earlier two bows.
Now we get to the crux of the issue though. WITH metal arrows the compound bow can do massive damage even through armor silently. Which seems like a pretty powerful thing and you are paying for it in the ammo... significantly.
With that in mind the Compound bow gives you ONE thing for it's cost over the other bows, access to fire metal arrows. BUT metal arrows are significantly expensive and without metal arrows the Compound bow isn't over powered or really even worth it's cost in the least. But that cost could be justified for both use with and without metal arrows with a SIGNIFICANT increase in durability say 200 arrows (following the trend the xbow started of doubling the surability previous weapon). You'd still have a high barrier of entry, you'd still have a high repair cost, you'd still have a very high cost for the "good" ammo BUT you'd also have a higher tier weapon that you could use as a more general purpose weapon AND a high tier PVP weapon (if you had metal arrows)
So my conclusion is that the compound bow should it self be cheaper to make and place the onus of the high cost where it belongs on the ammunition that makes it so powerful... which it already has.
I got an Assault Rifle with holo scope and its sat in a cupboard for about 300 hours now as its too expensive to use, so why would you bother with an even bigger sink like a compound bow.
Tested the arrows, against flak (500 armor set) the arrow does 70 damage body shots and 210 headshots. Also does roughly 600 damage headshots to land animals. Given the price of the arrows and the cost of repairing (1 poly aka 2 paste per shot, given 50 shot durability) each shot is costing almost 10 paste. That is unjustifiable given the damage doesn't match the cost differential. Why wouldn't you just use a Longneck which is cheaper, and its ammo which is also dramatically cheaper, or an xbow?
TL:DR: Reduce the cost on the arrows by a large margin (or increase the damage), increase durability of the bow (repair cost is massive, 50 shots isn't enough).
I'd love to go rolling around with the compound but at the moment the upkeep of using this weapon is completely out of hand. As for using stone arrows instead of metal? No point, stone arrow fired from compound does 5 damage against flak, and you are still damaging an item that costs almost as much as an assault rifle just to fix.
P.S. Agree that the assault rifle is pointless, I've done the same thing. Shelved it, never using it again unless it gets buffed so here's to hoping. Currently, mid tier = the best tier, and max tier = something you'd need to hack a bunch of ♥♥♥♥ to actually use (and even then it isn't even strong).
