how to level up a Pteranodon

im curious since killing stuff with it is a bit diffcult to do with how it moves. so any idea of what to do to get some decent xp would be great to hear.

Attack wild brontos on the top of their heads, they cant attack you if you are right on top of their heads. But watch your stamina, Because if you run out and have to land next to it you might lose the pteranodon. If that's too much for you just kill dodo's, dilos, parasaurs, and other pteranodons.

As the nipple above me said, just kill small game that isn't likely to hurt you. If you don't feel like doing that you should at the very least gain a few levels each day to begin with just by letting it sit idle (or by using it for non-violent tasks).

Could also just have it follow you along on on passive with a high level dino you have like raptor at the very least so it gets some xp from kills as well. Of course this is also dependant on if you level up the hp of the pteradon a decent amount first so it can take some hits.

Another thing i just remembered you can do is whilst you are making narcotics, cementing past, sparkpowder, etc. ride the pteranodon, and sit near to where your grinding stones are,

If in a tribe, have someone else make narcotic while you are mounted. ALL tribe xp will go to the pteranodon, and from what I saw, they take less xp than other Dino's. Went from 44 to 51 with only a couple hundred narcotic crafts. If you craft it yourself, very little goes to the tame.

EDIT: Be sure to use the craft all and then jump on your tame. Also, I use two mortar to speed things up.

There is no faster way to level a dino than piking trees. One person mounts the dino, the other pikes trees down like a mad man, XP flows.

Get someone on a Rex and follow them while they munch everything in sight. You can gain the first 20 levels in a half hour. Also, if it's a descent level, barrel rolling can kill more than you think. My 217 ptera takes down alpha rexes. Tamed her from a 116 and was taking down alpha raptors later that day.

Have a tribemate nearby, sit on your ptera have said tribemate craft Rafts, they give tons of exp but you cant make em if your riding the ptera, its a 2 man level up effort

Solo: find raptors, trikes, turtles, carnos. Use corkscrew attack on them, rinse and repeat.
With a tribesmate: mount your ptera, have your tribesmate ride a Rex with high melee, follow him closely through the island while he destroys all wild dinos.
With a tribesmate, power leveling: Have your tribesmate mount a high melee Argentavis, fly with him all over the island, act as scout, find alpha raptors/carnos, have your tribesmate soften them up until they're very bloodied, at which point you go in and do corkscrews on them.

newbies will definitly die if they do that.
they run out of stamina soooo quikly (and generally haven't learned to watch it regularly)

Barrelroll any Dino to Death. My pteranodon lvl 50 Killed a Bunch of Enemy rexes yesterday without getting 1 Single hit

The low level pteras are basically used just to get your from point A to point B. You can use barrel roll to kill things, but it's very risky since it can easily die in 1 - 3 hits from just about everything. Stamina will be an issue as well since barrel rolling drains your stamina so fast.

However...

It's very easy to tame a high level one. The kibble used to tame them is made with dodo eggs and it only takes 21 dodo kibble to tame a 120 ptera. Dodos lay their eggs at a rapid rate compared to the other dinos so it's very easy to get. Once you get a 100+ ptera, let it gain some passive experience by taking it to your base and let it sit until it gains enough levels to have about 1000+ stamina, and 1.5k - 2k health. Then you can easily kill just about anything with it (besides giganotos). If it dies somehow, it's very easy to tame another.
