How to build large stuctures? (solved)
I have seen many screenshots of people building big enclosed hangars and giant castles. I wanted to know how they can make all of these amazing giant structures without having them filled to the brim with pillars? The best I can do without pillars in the middle of my house is 4x4. Is there some sort of exploit or thing that im missing?

Post pics?

I've never seen something large and enclosed without pillars.

So long as there is a full area covered with foundations you can span a roof over with no pillars.

Realy? if it has foundations under it I can put cielings? I thougth there had to be a pillar or a wall conected to a foundation atleast 2 units close.

In this vido the talkative man is inside of a huge enclosed area with a roof spaning it and there are no pillars on the inside of it.

as long as the foundations are connected to the walls you are fine and do not need pillars, keep in mind though that if you destroy the foundations the ceilings can fall down.

If you are going to use a pillar as a foundation, and have a wall at the end.

It can only go like this.

C C C
C P C
C C C

A bigger version

C C C C C
C P C P C
C C C C C
C P C P C
C C C C C

But if you want to just setup a platform.

____C
__C C C
C C P C C
__C C C
____C

Hope you get this diagram.

C= Ceiling
P= Pillar

I've never been able to build like that.
If I try to place a cieling more than 2-3 squares out from a wall it tells me "foundation support needeD" or whatever.

Edit:

If using ground foundations this is what I encounter.

W= wall
C = cieling
/ = error

Keep in mind a normal foundation is under the wall

WCCC/

(I don't remember exactly how many squares it can go out, but I know its not many so I'll use 3 as an example).

So could I put a cieling over this?

Or would I not be able to have cielings over these areas?

1. How tall are the walls
2. Is there anything on top of the foundation (storage box, crafting stations)
3. Anything blocking you to put the ceiling
4. What does it say when you try to put a ceiling

I actualy haven't tried making a structure big like this since you can only have cielings going out 2 units off of wall normaly. I did not think that just because there was a foundation below the cieling it would be suported
