Feeding trough food disappears/rots too quickly
I tried the feeding trough and am very disappointed. I stacked in aout 12 stacks of meat and it was only in there about 8-9 hours and when i came back tonight there were only 2 meat per stack left in the whole box! I have 3 carnivores and this was much more than they normally eat in a day inxcluding what usually rots. I guess I'll continue to feed thru their inventory

If your carnivores are sitting still the meat will rot faster than they'll eat it, in their inventory or in the trough.

Just toss 10 meat in the trough, wait a few seconds after meat stops disappearing, pull what's left out and stick it in the fridge. Repeat once a day or so. If you're going to actually take a carnivore out, do that before you leave and then just kill and butcher the first animal you see to keep him fed.

Its best to ration your food, only place what you know your carnivores will eat, like belthize said.

Isnt the design of the trough to use it when you go on vacation from the game though ?

Alot of players cant play everyday or even every few days anf those ppl dont want to constantly JUST play to put raw meat in the trough.

Im all for feeding your dinos, after all you did take responsibility for them by taming them so i feel you need to have to do something twords theur upkeep and general well being.

To help players that cant play................. say during the entire week shouldnt it keep their dinos fed at least an entire week ? If not 2 ?

I think they should simply make it like others have suggest, have the ability to add a fridge or preserving bin to the trough as the main feed source, that way you can easily have everything all together and eating for long periods without any issues.

No, the trough is designed to feed an area, the food spoils at the same rate as if it was placed inside the dinos, all stacks rot on their timers together..

Should use cooked meat and berries ( any meat that rots feeds the scorps )

Dont own more then you can feed :)

players who cant play every day, no worry, dinoes can take 5-14 days ( depending stomach ) before they starve. ( some even longer )

Nope, the design of trough is to feed multiple dinos faster without the need of go to each of them and click F

And if cant really play for the entire week then that is not really "responsible" for your tamed dinos isnt it? i have like 40-50 dinos now and feeding them is nightmare before the trough got in.

If you cant play everyday, fine your dinos wont die for at least a week of starving (standing still), if you cant play for the entire week consistently then this is not the game for you :) go do something else, no offense here

You could also put meat jerky in the trough, a full stack uneaten will last for 240 days in the trough, if you have a few extra stacks it should greatly extend their time till starvation. Not very efficient, but if you are wanting to leave for an extended period of time it should work. Not sure what to do for the herbivores, but just throwing out my 2 cents.

EDIT: Corrected bad calculations.

maybe they could make a upgraded version like a chilled trough that uses gas or electricity to keep the food longer

Eh, I play local player mode.
From what I can see, the food trough is a total waste of time.
It just looks pretty but has no useful function that I could discern given meat rots so fast in it.
Might as well just leave cooked meat in the dinos.

I also never saw any of my dino's even bother going over to it.
As far as I know, they never get hungry enough to bother with it. By the time they did
get so hungry, the meat in it would have rotted long before. Cooked or no.

But, this is on local play mode so YMMV.

The trough food rots at the same rate as it does inside a dino... it has many usefull functions for certain situations.. such as a egg farm ( dinos you dont care about ever moving just need them fed for eggs ) such as a petting zoo ( dinos you like looking at but never really use anymore ) such as a retirement farm ( dinos that have outlived their usefullness that you refuse to kill and feed to your other dinos )

Dinos dont walk to it, it has an AOE effect to feed them, dinos do use food slowly when parked... its very slow though. seems a stack of 30 cooked meat, they will eat on an average of 2 of that stack before it rots..

Enjoy
