200m Non-Dedicated
200 meter restriction on non-dedicated server is actually completely ridiculous. My friend can barely walk anywhere if I'm not with him, it's like needing to walk around a child. Furthermore, I got glitched and stuck in a rock, now he died and respawned and immediately has to spawn on me because God forbid he be more than 200 meters from me. I understand its to improve performance on my end as the host, but why is it not a server option to change it? If I want to reduce performance to allow my friend some free-range of movement, shouldn't that be my choice?

I know I'm being ♥♥♥♥♥♥, I apologize. But this really is frustrating the hell out of both of us. And with only 2 of us, increasing the usable area should not have too much performance hit. Please change the limit.

It will be increased in the future. They're starting small. And it's not that bad. Me and my friend recently switched to this instead of online, and liking the performance and lack of griefing a lot more. It is a pretty small area for now, but big enough to do whatever we wanted to do so far. I was the one restricted to 180m and felt the restriction, but not enough to stop me from having fun.

That's a personal thing though. My friend and I don't like to be on top of each other. We are playing together, but like to be able to roam around to do whatever either one wants. And we don't even have mounts yet. Once we do it's going to get even worse.

I agree with this.

I encountered the same issues with dying (my post got lost somewhere in the feedback forum) where if one person is doing something and the host happens to die it just yanks you away to wherever the host spawned at. There's no notice or anything. I think it flashes up a message AS it's moving you.

It makes even close range co-op play nearly impossible, especially early on before you have a real base, because there's no option for the host to spawn near you (that I could find). The spawns are random over a pretty wide area.

What you can do in the meantime (it will require quite a bit more configuration) is start up a dedicated server on one of your machines. My friend and I are both running on med-high power PCs and are able to run the server and the game without any serious performance issues, but depending on your system this might not be a viable option.

What is the difference between dedicated and non-dedicated?
EDIT: Apart of course from the obvious 200m restriction. Does dedicated cost money to run on my on own computer?

Non-dedicated runs off your singleplayer game. There isn't a specific process 'dedicated' to server functions.

The dedicated server runs separately from the people connecting to it. Sometimes it's even on it's own machine entirely. The process is running as the server, and then any clients can connect to it. This way you could have a server running and game logic being processed even when nobody is playing, like the official and unofficial hosted servers do.

It does not cost money to host from your own computer, but it is somewhat taxing on your system. Depending on your specs it might not be powerful enough -- I don't know.

You do have the OPTION of purchasing hosted server space somewhere else. That's something that you can do that would cost money.

You also need to do some network stuff and open ports on your router/firewall so that other people can connect to it, if you run it from your computer. This is a safety thing. Your computer doesn't want just anyone accessing it so you have to specifically tell it that you want it to be opened on that port. There are guides on how to do this if you google.

Update: I died in the wilderness with my friend far from my bed. He now can't move at all. Awaiting the raptors to come and kill him since he's now immobilized. Also if I move too far away from him then he gets pulled harshly in my direction and then typically falls off a cliff as a result. He's died once from this and nearly died twice as a result. Really frustrating.

Further I can't spawn to go free him since if I dare spawn he'll get yanked in my direction and die as a result.

It's being added in the next update, adjustable "tethering distance". Hopefully this is a marked improvement, and am very happy that it is happening! :)

3.Typed in 900
4.And it worked for me

OP, why not just find a PVE server to play on?? no one can mess with you on an unofficial PVE server, most good ones anyways.

You can probably launch a dedicated on your gaming machine and just password protect it. Shut it down while your not playing and you will have full control. If your machine isn't strong enough for that then well... now you understand why they add the restriction.

guys seriously how do you always find 1 1/2 year old threads and reply to it? the issue has been solved thousands of times on so many different websites now but a few weeks after it got released on steam it was actually hard to find that info or the distance was hardcoded or unchangeable.. let the thread die
WizeKrack Jan 23, 2017 @ 6:24am
Oh wow. I didn't even notice the time stamp. It was just at the top of the thread pool
