Building a " pit " to trap/lure dinos to kill/tame ?
My vision................

Im looking for a t-rex to tame in a location ive seen them from time to time. Ive dug a pit deep enough to trap/tame the thing now i need to lure it.

( The "pit " is craftable and can be place on semi-level ground, extending down under the surface of the earth like foundations used to b4 they fixed them. )

I find him/her and attract its attention with a xbow bolt to the butt !! I haul ♥♥♥ back twords my pit and across the catwalk suspended over it, i can use it the Rex cant.................... he falls in pit, mad as hell and i tame him at my leisure.

Once tames getting him out could be an issue but a makeshift crane is a possibility i suppose. If you just ewanted to kill dinos then spikes at the bottom with 1 clear walkway to harvest the dinos once the spikes killed them.

The reality using existing game mechanics.....

Off of a cliff or mntside make a box with a dino gate at 1 end just off the edge of the mnt/cliff. Get agro, run to the ladder, decesnd into the pit and close the door behind me and and hope he lands in the pit and not off to 1 side or im dead meat.

IF he lands in the pit i can again tame him through a few windows or from the cliff top.The same pit can be ised as a trap to capture other dinos to kill/harvest. I realize alot of ppl have taming pits for raptors and smaller critters. Im thinking of 1 you can craft that sinks down lower than the surface not built entirely above it.

1 of these seems alot funner and realistic/less work then the other. I realize with the world and the way if you glitch through it this mignt never be possible but id like to at least bring it up to everyone and get feedback.

Technically im admitting up front it might not be possible so keep that in mind please.

Im also not threatening to give a bad review or tell my friends to not buy the game if i dont get it.

For primitive as well as full tech tree servers.

And im not threatening to QUIT unless i get it !! Im merely offering it up for feedback/discussion in a civil adult manner. Have a great day : )

Why does it need to be in the ground?

I've made something like this.
It's a hexagon arena made out of window walls and a behemoth gate.

Lure the dino in through the gate and then run out the door on the other side. Run around the back and close the gate. Now you are free to shoot arrows/pike/punch the dino free from damage and the dino can't run or be attacked.

Also, suggestions are that a way

Bleh, waste of materials.

Build a 1x1x1 box of stone and stand in it yourself. Protect yourself, not the dino.

Keep other tamed dino's near to play guard once you knock out the target.

Also, just kite a rex to a cliff with a flyer... Much easier.

Im not looking for ease............... im looking for immersion, a feeling of accomplishment, actually crafing sonething and using it to succeeed at something. With a little realism thrown is as well lol

Not to mention a stone house (blind) protects you, but once the dino is down, it does nothing to protect the tame. A taming pen on the other hand does both. Just make sure it's big enough to hold that angry spino. Also, a keypad near the emergency exit means you don't have to circle back around and close the behemoth gate. And a double high door frame made of metal means you could run through it on raptor back rather than having to outrun a trex on foot. In the process of building a new one on our new server.

im immersed; and in my immersion, this is still a waste of material. I take plenty of pride in my Base; but i still think its a waste of resources to build a pen, or to implement an excavation feature. I too like to play with a sense of 'realism' (as much as i can, in a faking Dinosaur game.) but in that same sense; its a inefficient use of material.

let alone, if you dig a hole it cant get out of; how are you going to get it out when you tame it?

and again; i bring Pets to guard my Tames... only if im taming on the Beach will i build a thatch fence to keep pesky newbies away; otherwise, unnecessary. Im usually killing every wild thing in a small radius of the Tame for meat anyways.

just my 2c. to each their own.

If you have the agro would you need to shut the behemoth doors before it was unconscious

No real need to argue about this, the game engine doesn't allow digging anyway.

no such thing as protecting dino under tame with other dinos, rilo or raptor wont attack ur tamed trex, but it will unconscious one, cant exactly have aggressive dino either, will either get lost or will kill your dino under tame by " protecting " it.

I have built towers out of stone pillars and snipe off of them to tame, It works as well as a cliff does and its man made.

We use towers or high wood gates angled to leave a tight opening that the Rex or spino can get trapped.. When the Rex or spino is down we use are tamed pets to guard or build walls around the knocked out dino..

I build spike walls around a K.O'ed dino, they are pretty cheap, great defensively and dont have those pesky foundations.

Most dinos can attack you through the wall, it sounds more like a tomb, than a defense. Tried something like this the other day with a metal tower I had. Bird was not only able to attack me, but it managed to destroy the metal hatch I was standing on (didn't think that was possible) and I fell to my death.

Ive tamed just about everything with the 1x1x1 box. On real hard settings, no less. Easy to craft, not allot of weight, and doesn't prevent natural resources from respawning; as needless large structures do.

Their your materials I guess, do with them what you please...

But my opinion still stands. Waste of material. Better spent on a large base with intricate interior to thwart raiders.

My 2c.

So do you have the HP to simply absorb the hits then (since they attack through walls)? I don't see how a 1x1x1 provides any protection at all.
