Arachnophobia/insectophobia mod?
I totally loved and enjoyed this game until one moment: While walking on a beach I was attacked/poisoned by some giant insect. I totally freaked out because I have a massive insect and (mostly) spiders phobia. Only then I learn there are those creatures in the game. Is there any mod available to take care of them? Would some skilled person be able to make a mod to do that?

You may say it would ruin the gameplay or experience of the environment. Well I tell you I had to switch the game off as I am not able to play it at all. I understand for majority of players those animals add intensity and overall excitement of the game. But not for me. Since there was a mod for Skyrim to deal with spiders I think there would be at least few people to appreciate that in ARK as well.

The insects in this game are not real, only bits and bytes. I can't understand how your real phobia can actually "work" on non-real insects your brain easily defects as illusions. Do you play local or online?

Ironicly that is why its a phobia...its an irrational fear. If it made sence everyone would be scare of it. I have a friend that also is scared of bugs the only way he can get through sections of games that are known for bugs is to sort of zone out and not focus on the screen while button mashing and hoping for the best.

Well you are right its just an "illusion" but its quite a well modeled and real-looking illusion that is trying to kill my in-game character. I play on local.

Im sorry...I think this is just out of the question. I am sorry you are afraid of bugs, but you should honestly just be playing something else. We need the devs to focus on more important things for wider audiences...such as optimizations and balancing.

I share your problem with the spiders too. Couldn't play Skyrim in 1st person whenever facing spiders because ♥♥♥♥ those things were hideous x__x

Yes, DianCecht, that is exactly the way how I avoid it in games that are like that. Here it is impossible as the bugs can come from anywhere. Even the idea of it is making me switch the game off. In Minecraft there was a Mob-filter mod that allowed players to exclude the spiders. Something like this here would be great.

JX i am not sure how much you looked into the game but the removal of the mobs you need taken out would really kill your game play in caves. Maybe you should see if a workshop mod has been created to replace mobs. Also if playing local you should be able to change the INI file to set the spawn weight of the offending mobs to zero. Tho as i said it would make caves laughable.

I will have a look in the .ini file Thanks! Yes I am aware of the fact that removing an enemy is a corruption of a game in a way. I would not mind if a mod would replace those things with some other hostile animal (even something more deadly).

you obviously have no idea how psychology works. if someone has a deep deep fear of something it doesnt matter if its RL a game a picture, that deep fear is strong, my sister is insanely terrified of oceans if she even gets near a large enough lake she damn near rips my car door off trying to get away from it

You can maybe edit the insects out of the game when you play local only. Some of the forum guys here are good editors of the game ini and may help you out with that.

Why should he? One week ago there were no insects AT ALL and you enjoyed the game, didn't you?

There were always spiders, since like day 1. Also scorpions. But it doesnt really matter. He said he plays on local. He coudl make it so theres no dinos and he has a base the size of the map with 10000000 of every resource and it wouldnt affect anyone elses game. Just kinda a lame thing to do, edit out enemies you don't like.

I understand OP's problem. I got over it, but I remember that the spiders in Blood and in Thief used to freak me out way more than a 'normal' person.

While I'm not aware of any mods, the mods that exist would need to be run on the server you're playing on for it to work anyways.

However you can run snigleplayer or a private server and use server settings that turn the ant and spider spawns off. There is a whole page on the ARK wiki about serversettings.

I personally use these settings to turn down Rex spawns (4 rexes attacking in like 15 minutes is just too much for me), but it should also work to turn ants and spiders down to zero.

Exactly! I took lot of time looking on screenshots, videos, reading on web to see if there are any of those animals. No? OK: safe to buy and play the game. And there you go: 30 bucks are lost because the game design has developed.

Again: I am not asking the developer to remove them. I am aware that for a lot of you it adds the thrill. OK. I just asked if anybody knows about a mod to deal with it...
