Anyone know if the mining helmet light source helps underwater?
I don't know, but as is the mining helmet is useless. It barely provides any light, it's like the equivalent of a keychain flashlight.
Any chance on getting fog removed from the water? Fog is clustered water particles so they would be absorbed on the surface and not be noticed by anything underneith. At best you would have dust on the bottom rustle as you swim by or fog above the water surface, but neither would be noticed in the middle or top parts of the ocean.
Thats more of an understatement and invalid broad comparison. To clarify for people who haven't used it:
The helmet itself provides the best protection compared to the previous flak helmet - not much in terms of weather protection from what I can tell. Not to mention its free light with no battery life. Key chain lights won't probably light 2 feet in front unless its a good quality multi-led light. This enlightens an area multiple meters in front of you allowing for ground combat against dinos/players where it would otherwise be pitch-black or hard to see depending on the monitor. What is visible on my wife's monitor at night, is dark as a locked closet on my monitor. So this tool is invaluable given certain situations and useless in others - just like a pike. Its function is basically that of a standard hand flashlight in real life before LEDs became mainstream.
In caves it has better use in darker areas, but at night outside its better than nothing at all for the servers where Gamma command can't be used. Or I guess for people looking for an emerssion type of gameplay.
This is also useful when traversing tree laiden areas where moonlight is blocked. Given the type of electronics available at earlier levels, I think that currently its a bit high on the leveling chain, but better than nothing lol I'm sure everything will get rearanged at some point though.

EDIT: In all seriousness, having something to make the water less murky would be great. :)
My point was they need to make it more like a real headlamp. A real miners headlamp would light up a much broader area than this would. Also from what i've noticed you can't turn it off, which can be dangerous at times. I also am not certain about hitboxes, but i feel like the Miners helmet should have less protection than the flak helmet. At least when it comes to projectiles. I mean in real life they are gonna aim for the open area which is your face. For all i know it could already be this way. I personally don't recommend using it, it would be more efficient to make the soup that allows you to see in the dark. I also have flak armor that is far superior to the miners helmet and i'm not willing to give that up and risk me being spotted in the dark only to have some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ light that barely allows me to see.
