What do you guys do when the insects attack your dinos?
I lost my first ptera over the weekend because two were on it's back and I piked right through them and killed him. It really was not cool. The only thing I've thought of is to try punching them off in the future.

Tame a dimorphodon, tell it to follow you or your ptera, set it on lowest range aggressive. You'll need to level up speed so it can keep up but once you do instant pest control.

As far as your example, ants won't do all that much damage compared to you, never panic, move around and find a safe attack vector. Worst case scenario your ptera takes a lot of damage before you safely knock the beasties out.

poke them but stay far enough away to not hit your dino. Put him on passive helps to keep him still. if you hit them, they will retarget you as well. I suppose you could just start out with punching them to get there agro, then back off and kill with a pike.

If I'm on a flyer I run for the hills, on anything else I just let AoE dino attacks do their thing. When alone I crouch and pike while backpedalling.

Maybe the Devs can make a Texas Fly Swatter..:P Kidding aside.I have my dino set to aggresive.. If one of my Dino Cant fight i make sure the other Dino i have does. Like a BodyGuard...So far i been doing good..

mount the ptera and fly away before attacking, I've yet to have an ant clip to anything. Also putting other dinos in the area on neutral they will run over and smash the ants off the ptera. I find trikes stegos and mammoths work best as pest control for early players. Late game the rex is the best anti bug pet you'll ever find 1 bite and it eats all the ants.

Yeah, I was in a panic because I did not know how fast they could kill him. Kept trying to jump on him and take off again. What is a dimorphodon? Is that the one foot wide dragon/bat looking thing? Good idea! Thanks.

Dat's der bunny.

They're really great ant killers. They're small enough that they don't suffer from hit box issues with them like other larger dinos do and they're immune to the drones until the dimo decides to take them out

Um... is this a serious question?

If it is a combat dino jump on it and kill them (they die easy).
If it is not a combat dino jump on it and run away...

Lol, is isn't a difficult thing to process.

If some one has a problem that they are looking for a solution to (he did not say but I'm guessing he wants to know of a good way to defend them while he's offline as well as online).

Your statements are too broad, the individual is looking for a precise and concise solution, give them info like what dino to use as a defence against this issue, the one or ones that you believe to be best at the job. Also the last statement was a bit of a ♥♥♥♥ move, the guy has better things to do than to test things himself all the time and probably just wants help with a fast solution. No reason to be a ♥♥♥♥ about it.

I am specifically asking about insect attacks when I have no followers other than the ptera I am riding. I guess you did not bother to read the original post.

I tamed two diMos tonight, so I am all set after someone gave an awesome answer. Thanks guys!

If you REALLY want to add protection fly in numbers... tame 3 or 4 more ptera's as "aerial protection" and have em follow your ptera you fly on. Add in a couple of dimorphodons and BAM think of it as having a can of "RAID" for those pesky ants :P

P.S. with the ptera's there already fast enough unless you leveled up speed in which case all you'd have to level for the Ptera's is attacking dmg and HP.
