Best early game herbivore for hunting?
So I want to end up with a raptor, however I'm gonna need a fair amount of meat, what hunts better? Phiomia/parasaur/something else (really would like it to be rideable at like lvl 20 or under.

Thanks!

Turtles. Tank like mad, easy to tame, no need to ride. Just plink Trikes with slingshot and run behind the turtles. They will make short work of them. Alternatively, use trikes instead, just slightly more effort to tame initially and make great mounts/gathers at the appropriate level.

3rd choice would be 3-4 Dilos but slightly more challenging to KO for a low level but really easy to tame. Mate boost does wonders for them, too. I level mine to around 500 hp and then just me lee damage.

stego's work pretty darn good if you level them abit. Brontos - most things can't even get close enough to damage them as their tail swing kicks them back so far, just gotta worry about t-rex and spino as they don't kick those two back very far, Trikes work good too, they can take out most of the dino's as long as they don't get overwelmed.

but out of the 3, bronto's are the best so far. I trained one that got stuck between two rocks :D, they are a hard tranq but with the crossbow, it might be a little easier now.

Trike. Can knock enemies back repeatedly and save a lot of healing and damage early on. Not incredibly fast, though.

With a slingshot it's really easy to knock out a trike as all you gotta do is backpedal and fling some rocks at them and then turn around and run when they get close and repeat the process when you gained some distance. A trike, and even better a mate boosted pair offer really good early game protection and hunting companions. There's not much that'll take them down except a much higher level T-rex or Spino. They offer you mobile chests with their decent carry weight and they're not as annoyingly slow as a turtle.

That being said, a turtle is an absolute tank and if you can put up with the slowness they can be beats and the added benefit of them not drowning since they have no oxygen bar. Stegos to me take too long to tame and their abilities dont warrant it. If you're going to spend that much time on a herbavore you might as well get a Mammoth and get one that is a lot better in every way.

Get a trike, stand on top of it knock out a raptor and your good to go.

Early game Id suggest a trike and perhaps a few dillos as backup.
Mid game you will want a steggo for berries/narco and not much else to due to how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slow they are.
Once your established you should go for your Scorpion once you have a scorp you can get yourself a nice PACK or raptors with almost no stress..once you have raptors the next goal should be sabers.
Brontos Rexes and Spinos are late game dinos..they take hours to tame and hundreds of narco too.

Just my oppinion, I could be wrong

Thanks for the replies, I do actually have metal tools now so gathering meat is no longer a worry, and can make a scorp saddle, I guess I just gotta get a trike for berries :) I can make tranq arrows... so stego might be better but stego also requires a bigger dino pen and it's also slower, so i will likely go for a trike since my friend found a blueprint for a saddle :)
