Dimorphodons: The overpowered pterosaur
So I decided to go looking for a dimorphodon to call my own. I hopped on my tribe's trusty Argentavis, and went flying, searching the skies for one.

After a while, I found a lone level 9 female dimorphodon flying around. Someone else had tamed one in the server and said to punch them, because they fly too quickly for tranqs. So I tried to do just that. I quickly found out that wouldn't work. No matter how much I punched it, she just kept tearing through everything. I only got away with a sliver of health, my gloves, and boots.

I returned to the island healed and better armed. After nearly dying to a pair of high level raptors, I let myself heal and found my adversary again. This time, I put two tranq arrows in her.

I was shortly after killed.

After flying over on our pteranodon, I retrieved my stuff, and then proceded to put six tranq arrows into the dimorphodon, followed by more punching.

When I almost died YET AGAIN, I decided enough was enough (And I was out of flying animals) and had the argentavis and pteranodon tear it apart.

Am I the only one that notices an issue here? Even if it's a late game dino, not even Tyrannosaurs give this much trouble. No matter what I did, that dimorphodon would not lose conciousness!

No issues here.
How about the fact that a pteranodon or argentavis would be dead if you put six tranq arrows into them, and they're both at least three times the size of that thing?

How about you try to aim and hit?

You must have missed. I have NO issue at all with my pike (I even sometimes kill them with my torch when im stuck at night in the dark).

I've killed a dozen of ants without any problem. But this one, everytime I hit it, I see the blood, I hear the scream, the pike wears, and it just stay alive.

Sounds like the invicible level 1 Dodo I found yesterday.

Were did you all find the dimo????
I've seen them all along the central river. If you're on a quiet server, you might need to kill off some dinos first to allow them to spawn.
Thx that worked i got a black and orange one thx so much :D :D :D

How about you learn to read and get back to me when you do? I saw the arrows hit. I saw the blood, I heard it scream, and I saw them stick into its body.
I have 3 of them. One level 9, 2 level 12. The level 9 one went down with one tranq. The others 3. I honestly don't see the problem. Fighting them without ranged weapons is a pain though.
Edit: Might be a stupid question, but did you wait between shots? Dont overlap the tranqs.

LOL got already 5 of them ..the higest one was lvl 35, that one took a lot of arrows but the are really no challange to catch. the are great for swarm assault, love them a lot

Reason for this its because dimorphodons have a very tiny hitbox. That combined with lag and de-sync makes them a very difficult target to hit if you're not prepared or happen to be terrible at aiming ahead.

T-Rexes are easy because they're big targets but Dimos you have to either hit them in the head or in the body, anywhere else and it doesn't work. I've wasted almost an entire stack of tranq arrows on a dimo, in the end it looked like a flying pin cushion that wouldn't go down.

If by some lucky chance you actually hit them, you have about 20-30 seconds to make them drop before they loose interest in you and reset. My tactic is to wait when they're very close to you and aim ahead. If they aggro, start running in a direction, turn around and let them come closer before shooting them in the head.

On the other hand a whole flock of these things are pretty amazing, PvP or PvE-wise. They can tear pretty much anything apart in a matter of seconds (even chitin armor doesn't do much against them). Being hard to hit, they're great against most dinos and players. Their only weakness are AoE attacks (ankylos, stegos, brontos, etc) so watch out for those.

I suggest you level their HP, Speed and Damage (in that order) for maximum efficiency. Make sure you get both males and females to get the mate boost.

Ascendant longneck rifle loaded with tranq darts shot to the head doesn't kill or tranq it. No chance that I missed because it was stationary.

Dimorphodons are ridiculously OP. I found a pack of about 5, killed all but 2 with my Paracer. Then they killed me. Then I was about to spawn on the bed on the platform saddle, when the Dimorphs killed my Paracer without any trouble. Just two of them. I spent hours making a base on that Paracer then 2 Dimorphs destroyed the whole thing in a few seconds.

Dimorphadons dont target your mount, they target the rider, thats whats useful about them. Also you can shoot them and 10 arrows can be sticking out of those suckers and he will continue casually flying around, his hitbox is kinda off so its hard to hit them. Dont stress getting them unless your planning to get a swarm of them. If you want something for your shoulder, get a monkey, they throw poop while on your shoulder. The compys are also pack hunters but not the best at fighting so id recomend putting one on your shoulder, unless you have a bunch of them.
