How to get a dino across the map
My tribes base is on the southern shores but I need a sabertooth. Last time I went to the Northern mountains for a mammoth, it ended up drowning half way home. I am going to start my journey to get a sabertooth. Any suggestions on what I dinosaurs I should take or anything to make it easier? These are dinos I have tamed with a saddle:Sarco, Pteradon, Carbonemys, Spinosaur, Stegosaur, Trike, and Ankylosaurs.

Get yourself an Argentavis. Last time I checked they can carry sabertooths.

Just use the pteradon to fly there and use the shores to get back
May take longer but it is safer
And when ever you cross rivers go up the river to find a shorter stretch of water
Remember to set the Pteradon to passive and ride the saber back home with the pteradon following or you can bring an extra tribe mate to fly it back home
Just use right click grab to bring him there

they cannot carry sabers.

use the anky to guide caravan, as it can clear tree/srocks for easier pathing.

maybe bring the trike too, as larger stuff like stego/spino have a tendency to hit your tame and ruin TE when taming on any mountain (pesky birds n whatnot..)

other that that, a ton of tranq/narcos/meat... not much to it.

bring some fence posts with thatch etc to make a quick taming pen to knock out -> then protect the saber easier.

Thanks for the advice and quick replies! I will take my tribe member with me with the pteradon and maybe the trike or ankylo.

Argentavis can't carry sabers. What level is your spino? If it can tank, I would bring just that, and have a saddle for the saber ready to go. The fence posts with thatch is an extremely good idea, it allows you to have some breathing room from wild animals while taming. Having the saddle ready to go will allow you to ride the saber and keep it up (the ai is so stupid sometimes, getting stuck below the water, etc), while the spino carries your items and adds in extra attack. It's worth mapping out your intended route as well before hand, that way you know which areas of rivers, etc, are the most shallow, and avoid dangerous or deep areas.

Avoid steep cliffs and deep rivers, also cut down the larger trees and mine large rocks in your path that helps, if you can avoid sprinting as the dinos seem to have trouble is you run too far ahead.

Scouting a head for a good path also helps to verfiy safer routes.

Hell, just spent 3h bringing some tamed dinos (saber, scorp, argent, and... ankylo -.-) back to my base from the mountain next to the red obelisk to my base at the waterfall at the green one. Still needing mammoth, but for the moment, my desire to wander around is a bit reduced. ;) scout with a flyer, use the beaches and you'll be fine ^^

Where are you trying to go, navigating in the south is rather easy if you just follow the coast line, also there rivers there are shallow enough in most places that finding a crossing for smaller land animals is easier.

Also turtles are a good choice, they are hard to drown and can swim fast. Plus they tend to not get stuck on everything.

I usually just take the beach up to the mountain. When I was there before taming 2 mammoths, I kept getting attacked by birds and sabertooths. So maybe something to tank and something to fly? Probably will take the beach since it usually has just a few dilos...

Turtles and maybe dilos, turtles for tanking, dilos for slowing. A carno for decent attack yet good maneuverability. Leave the big guys at home unless your relocating. They have the hardest times in forests and rocky areas.

If I take a turtle there, how do I get the sabertooth back? I dont really want the sabertooth swimming a long the beach since they move slow in the water. Plus megladons would eat me. :/

There is enough shore space on the beaches for a saber.

The biggest problem isn't getting there, its more getting the sabertooth back without it getting killed. I don't care about how long it takes to get it back, I just don't want it getting killed for a dumb reason. :c Oh and if i cut throught the land to the mountains I have seen rexs/spinos/raptors/carnos spawn by the rivers. Another reason to take something with high health or high damage.
