That's always bugged me, too. It makes zero sense. They really need to fix that.
They don't just stomp on the ground, they create a field of disturbance that extends into the atmosphere.
Err, yes, I find it odd too. An imperfection in the physics engine that's probably a ♥♥♥♥♥ and a half to resolve without adding a ton of CPU load.
I don't like the screen shake but it adds some immersion and playing without it would feel kind of cheap. It is a wee bit on the exaggerated side though. We're on solid ground, not jello - it's just a fatty walking buy, not an earthquake.
