Ankylosaurus: How does it work?
Hello everyone :). Im a regular Ark newbie, and yesterday, I succesfully tamed one ankylosaurus (45 lv) and it tooked insanely over 6 hours! I hoped that this cool dino can help me and my tribe members to farm a lot of metal, but so far i dont know how to use it correctly.

First problem is Ankylos speed: Ankylo cant even chase a little dodo :D. Second problem is this dinos melee attacks: he uses 2 different attacks: 180 degreed tail slash and a fast melee attack. i noticed that fast melee attack is much better way to farm metal, but what i have seen so far, i cant choose, when i use fast melee attack or 180 tail slash: Is this random or how can i use that attack, what i want?

Third problem is metal farming speed: it farms decent speed of metal, but farming with pickaxe, it will still be faster. But how can i increase metal farming speed? Does it help, if i put ankylos level up points to attack damage?

Thanks to those guys, who can help me :)

1: Anklyos are slow
2: Attacks are random
3: Currently higher attack damage = higher gather rate (unless private server owners turned it off)

Hope this helps

For 2: Attacks are not random and can be controlled. If you stand in front of a stone and watch more to the right, it's just using his head. If you look to the left, it is making the turn. Same for the Mammoth...

Cool did not know that.

Thought that. Just a small hint for those Dinos doing stupid moves while gathering stuff ;)

Oh and another tip about Anklyos. Because of their super short legs they can get stuck on an incline other dinos usually have no trouble with and may get semi stuck in a rubber-banding loop. Just dismount and tell them to follow you and they will get unstuck.

Seems like this has been patched. I can't get this at all now.

It's a bug. It became broken w/ the latest major patch and will likely get fixed soon. Btw, just in case you're new, this is a really REALLY old thread. Almost everything you find that's more than 6 months old is no longer relevent to the game, due to how often it is updated. If you read the older posts / youtube videos / some of the guides it will just confuse you more. You're best off starting new threads.

if you look straight down you'll pretty much always get the headbutt

Is it working again? It wasn't working yesterday when I was trying. Like I said the last major patch broke it .. hopefully you're right and it's workign again.

I love when the anklyo smashes the ground with its tail. I find grinding rocks to be far less dull with the anklyo than harvesting other materials with other dinos.
