Electrical Socket not connecting to fabricator
Is there a reason behind why the devs didn't want the fabricator to connect to the electrical grid? Last time I tried this the fabricator refused to connect to ANY sockets placed around when the other electrical appliances had no difficulty whatsoever.

Fabricator is gasoline operated...
Not being condescending, if you did not know it thats it, if you know, care to expand on the quuestion?

the fabricator is a standalone workbench. it runs on gas. if your wondering why it cant be optionally powered by the generator well i dont know.

That's exactly what I meant, yes.

Don't you think it's strange that it doesn't run on energy? Even for endgame players like myself it's extremely annoying it can't connect to the powergrid and slurp up so much oil, where the genny uses up so much less(and can generate infinite amounts of power apparently, since there's no max to connected appliances).

Makes sense since fabricator is before gennie.
I would go for an alternative power source once you have a gennie/outlet nearby, or that it would just stay "on" and not consume gas if there is an outlet available.

It has an internal combustion engine which runs on gasoline. We can only assume it doesn't also have an electric motor.

Also, the fabricator runs 15 minutes on one gasoline. That's really quite enough to be crafting a lot of stuff. Just need a bit of planning to do all your fabricating at one shot so you don't waste that one gasoline for every 1% repair you want to do.

What do you need to build a generator?
10 electronics

where do you make electronics?
in the fabricator

Where do you build a generator?
in the fabricator

That is why it doesnt use the generator.

You do know you can turn off the frabicator right? if you're going to make something with the fabricator, do it in bulk so you make more use of the gasoline consumed

All I'm saying is; it would make a lot more sense if it can have it's own independent combustion engine, as well as the ability to connect to the electrical grid.

Haha.
Maybe I'm crazy.
Maybe I'm not.

But what what would we have if the fabricator required electricity to run?

A serious Catch 22 situation.

Oh, thank you as I needed a chuckle.

Just enjoy the glorious lawn mower noise the fabricator makes while running.

Imagine the smell of fresh cut grass and it is less annoying.

I'm fine with fabricator using gas to run but it would be wonderful if it could later be powered by electricity as well.

And maybe even without that buzzing noise which is way too loud, because it uses an electrical motor. Lovely implementations.

Fabricator can be turned off though if you're not crafting anything. Turn your generator off and you just lost your fridge.

I'm considering putting my generator in the water next to my base but I wonder how noise muffling water is in this game, I've never tried.

Has no effect on sounds. Sounds as they currently are, are not muffled by any object or item. Try it with your pets if you have them inside a base. Open the door > listen sounds(even record for dB purposes), Close the door > same sounds probably. Can't confirm it though.

Besides, a genny is meant to be constantly running, a fabricator is not.
Let's just pretend that the fabricator uses 4 times the amperage that the generator puts out. That's why a can of gas lasts 15 minutes in it, but 60 minutes in the generator. The genny doesn't put out enough to power the fabricator.

(Making this up, but it works! lol)

I like your theory, lol! It would make sense if...

...the generator didn't power unlimited appliances. Even with a limited amperage(let's say 16, just like any household), it would be able to power only 5 fridges and a couple of lamps(sort of).

But if we're not going technical into the volts & amps, it should be possible for the fabricator to work imho. If you disagree that's alright though. :)
